The U.S and Iran have managed to negotiate a two-week ceasefire after a more than one-month-long war. However, despite that, President Donald Trump’s threat to ‘destroy a whole civilization’ has gotten many upset. One of those is activist Greta Thunberg, who has now issued a devastating response to Trump.
On Tuesday, the U.S and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire. For example, it makes a “complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz” a reality, per Donald Trump. It could not only help the truce but also the world economy.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump confirmed that the US had received a 10-point conditional ceasefire proposal from Iran, described as a “workable basis on which to negotiate.”
“Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalised and consummated,” Trump wrote.
Ceasefire proposal from Iran, revealed
So what does the 10-point ceasefire proposal from Iran include? The list states the following, per The Wall Street Journal.
- Stop attacks both ways – Iran says it’ll halt military actions if the US does too.
- Lift ALL sanctions – economic pressure must end completely.
- U.S out of the region – Iran wants American forces to withdraw.
- Keep nuclear program – Iran insists on its right to enrich uranium.
- Control of Strait of Hormuz – Iran wants authority over this key oil route.
- Reopen shipping route – but under agreed rules and guarantees.
- No future attacks – a legally binding promise of non-aggression.
- Unfreeze Iranian funds – access to overseas funds restored.
- Compensation for war damage – U.S should pay for the destruction.
- UN-backed deal – make it official and enforceable globally.
While the ceasefire is a subject of joy for people worldwide, Trump’s threats to Iran before the truce became a reality are still fueling reactions. Several of his former fans, including influencer Alex Jones and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, have called the president out for his aggressive tone, and several others have joined
Trump had set a Tuesday-night deadline for Iran to agree to a deal. Otherwise, the president said he would “unleash hell” on Iran and kill “a whole civilization.”
Now, another person has joined the group of those who found Donald Trump’s outrage unacceptable: 23-year-old activist Greta Thunberg.
Greta Thunberg issues devastating response to Donald Trump
In an Instagram video published on Tuesday, the Swede linked Trump’s threatening comments to a broader question of passivity in the face of war crimes.
“The president of the United States just said that a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Thunberg said shortly before a ceasefire was announced.
“And no one is reacting. This speaks for itself. What the f*** is anyone even doing at this point?” she continued. “We have normalised genocide, total annihilation of entire people, the systematic destruction of the biosphere which we are all depending on to survive, and that corrupt, racist war criminals can act with complete impunity.”
Thunberg concluded, “But even though we have allowed far too much so far, it is not too late to say stop.”
This is not the first time Greta Thunberg has lashed out against Donald Trump, and the other way around for that matter. Time will tell whether he will respond to the 23-year-old activist.
