Kate Middleton is a cancer survivor. On Thursday, during a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, the Princess of Wales shared a deeply emotional moment when comforting a young mother celebrating the end of her cancer treatment.
Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer in March 2024. Exactly what type of cancer is not known to the public. However, luckily, in January last year, the Princess of Wales shared the overwhelmingly good news that she was in remission.
Since her cancer diagnosis, Kate has met several cancer patients and spoken about their experiences. On Thursday, the princess visited The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, England, and met 30-year-old Claire Lorente on a milestone day in her cancer journey.
Claire had just completed her final round of treatment for breast cancer and was preparing to ring the symbolic bell marking the end of this chapter. What followed quickly became a touching encounter that left many in tears.
Footage, shared by Hello! Magazine, shows Kate appearing, embracing Claire, and offering heartfelt words of encouragement.
“Well done you!” Kate told her, smiling as she held the young mother’s arm.

Claire was visibly emotional about the meeting with Kate Middleton, but of course, mostly because of her financing the cancer treatment. She told the future queen about the difficult months she had gone through, explaining that she had been undergoing treatment for nearly six months. She still had surgery ahead.
“I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones,” Kate Middleton said and turned to Claire’s partner. “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them.”
The princess, who is known to be great around children, also had a beautiful moment with Claire’s baby, saying, “Isn’t Mummy brave?”
As Claire prepared to ring the bell, marking the end of treatment, the Princess of Wales stepped back to give the mother the spotlight, saying, “This is your day.”
Moments later, Claire rang the bell with those around applauding her. It marked a symbolic and emotional end to her treatment journey.
The Christie in Manchester is one of Europe’s leading cancer centers. Kate was there to offer support to patients and their families, and to learn more.
“Overwhelming”
The visit certainly had an even more special meaning for the Princess of Wales, who has previously been very outspoken about her own cancer diagnosis and treatment. Her presence at the hospital added an extra layer of empathy to the already powerful moment shared with patients.
For Claire, the encounter became something she will never forget.
“It was overwhelming… but absolutely brilliant at the same time,” Claire later said.
Bless you, Kate Middleton, and thank you for supporting cancer patients. We send our best wishes to Claire and her family.
