A TikTok creator joked about Dwayne Johnson selling shampoo as a bald man. Now the star has replied.
Dwayne Johnson has responded after a TikTok creator went viral for pointing out what many fans have wondered since the launch of his grooming brand.
The actor and former wrestler launched Papatui in 2024, offering a range of men’s skincare and grooming products. Among the items for sale are shampoo and conditioner.
TikTok creator Katy Napier recently shared a video of herself browsing Papatui products in a store.
“Don’t give up on your dreams. The Rock is selling shampoo and conditioner, and he’s bald,” she joked in the clip.
The video quickly spread online, attracting millions of likes and comments.
Johnson’s strong response
It wasn’t long before the video reached Johnson himself. Rather than taking offense, the 54-year-old appeared amused by the joke.
Sharing a clip of himself wearing the wig used for his role as Maui in the upcoming live-action version of Moana, Johnson responded directly to Napier.
“Ok this made me belly laugh.. HARD,” he wrote.
Johnson then continued the joke by referring to his Disney character.
“And hey, sometimes a Demigod’s radiant and ravishing hair needs shampoo/conditioner. You’re Welcooooome Love ~ Maui.”
He also reassured Napier there were no hard feelings, adding that he had sent her a small gift.
Fans questioned the product line
Questions about Johnson’s shampoo products first surfaced when Papatui launched last year. Some fans found it amusing that one of Hollywood’s most recognizable bald stars was selling hair care products.
One social media user wrote at the time:
“I’m not gonna buy shampoo from a hairless man.”
Another joked that Johnson had “no business in the shampoo department.”
Johnson has previously said the idea for the brand came from conversations with fans who frequently asked about his grooming and skincare routine.
Speaking to GQ, he explained that many men are interested in skincare but don’t always feel comfortable talking about it.
The actor also admitted he isn’t an expert himself, but said he has had access to some of the best professionals throughout his career.
