22-year-old Collin Gosselin, who grew up in the spotlight on Jon & Kate Plus 8, has accused his mother of years of abuse and isolation, claims that Kate has consistently denied. Now, just months before his tell-all book hits shelves, Collin has doubled down on his allegations after Kate publicly dismissed his account and suggested she would sue him if she could.
The latest clash began after Kate responded to fans on TikTok who encouraged her to file a defamation lawsuit over Collin’s upcoming memoir. The former reality star claimed that, as a public figure, pursuing legal action would likely be unsuccessful.
“I can’t because I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I definitely would,” Kate wrote in one comment. In another, she said she had previously consulted a “high-power LA attorney,” who allegedly advised her that defamation cases involving public figures are far more difficult to win. When another follower asked whether she would take a lie detector test to address Collin’s accusations, Kate simply replied, “Ha!”
Collin responded shortly afterward with a new allegation shared on his Instagram Stories. He claimed that his mother once wrote in her personal diary that she “had to pray to God to stop hitting me,” adding that he was only two years old at the time.

“Never forget the fact that my mom would write in her diary how she ‘had to pray to God to stop hitting me,'” he wrote. “And this is why using my voice to put these things in the light is so important.”
The accusation comes as Collin prepares to publish In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, a memoir scheduled for release on October 13. In announcing the book, he said the public only saw a carefully edited version of his childhood while cameras documented his family’s daily life.
“For years, I kept those experiences to myself,” he wrote. “Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready. Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw.”
He added, “This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
Collin first made headlines in 2024 when he alleged that Kate frequently isolated him from his siblings and confined him to a locked room in the family’s unfinished basement. According to his account, the room contained surveillance cameras, a small window, and could only be opened from the outside. He claimed he often slept there on a mattress on the floor and alleged that his hands and feet were sometimes restrained with zip ties.
He also accused his mother of being physically aggressive and verbally abusive throughout his childhood. Kate’s attorney, Richard Puleo, previously rejected those claims, stating that he did not believe she had ever intentionally harmed her son. Instead, he argued that Kate was attempting to manage what he described as Collin’s longstanding behavioral issues.
Medical records later obtained by The Sun reportedly showed that Collin discussed his alleged treatment with a counselor. His father, Jon Gosselin, has since publicly supported his son’s account, saying he only became aware of the alleged basement room after gaining custody of Collin and his sister Hannah in 2018.
Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, with the family’s hit TLC series later continuing under the title Kate Plus 8. While Collin remains close to his father and sister Hannah, he is estranged from the rest of his siblings, including his twin sisters Cara and Madelyn and four of his fellow sextuplets.
Earlier this month, Collin celebrated Father’s Day by thanking Jon for their close relationship, writing that he was grateful for the bond they had built together. He has also referred to Jon’s former partner, Colleen Conrad, as his “real mom” in a separate social media post.
According to the publisher, In the Shadow of Eight will also explore Collin’s claim that he was prescribed powerful antipsychotic medications as a child, describing the memoir as an examination of “the dark side of fame” and the systems that allegedly failed to protect him.
Kate has repeatedly rejected her son’s version of events, maintaining that Collin struggled with significant mental health issues from a young age. She has previously described him as “a very troubled young man” with multiple psychiatric diagnoses and has argued that his accusations stem from what she calls a “distorted perception of reality” and a history of unpredictable behavior.
