For years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have kept their children largely away from the spotlight, carefully controlling when and how Archie and Lilibet appear in public.
So when Meghan shared a new glimpse of her 5-year-old daughter this week, people immediately started paying attention.
But this time, it wasn’t just a quick look at Lilibet that caught everyone’s eye.
Asked a simple question
The rare moment appeared in a new Instagram video Meghan posted on Tuesday, Oct. 6, as she celebrated the upcoming holiday collection from her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
The video is mostly about Meghan’s childhood, her entrepreneurial ambitions and the work behind her growing brand. But tucked into the footage is a sweet mother-daughter moment in the kitchen.
Meghan can be seen stirring a pot while Princess Lilibet stands nearby with her own bowl and spoon.
Then Meghan asks her daughter a simple question.
”What do you think, Lili?”
”I think it’s beautiful,” Lilibet replies.
For royal watchers, those few words were enough to turn an ordinary kitchen scene into something much bigger.
A rare glimpse of Lilibet
The footage gives viewers only a brief, partial look at Lilibet, which is hardly surprising considering how carefully Harry and Meghan have protected their children’s privacy.
Over the years, the couple have shared occasional family photographs and videos, but often from behind, at a distance or with only part of their children’s faces visible.
That has made every new glimpse something people immediately notice.
And this time was no different.
Some viewers began focusing closely on the few seconds in which Lilibet’s face could be seen, with comments such as ”A nose…” and ”I see nose !” appearing beneath reactions to the footage.
Another viewer summed up just how unusual the moment felt, writing, ”So we saw a glimpse of the nose of a child.”

Others were simply happy to see the little girl.
”She’s absolutely beautiful!💗💕💗” one person wrote.
Another commented, ”She’s gorgeous Lillybet ❤️.”
There were even viewers discussing which side of the family Lilibet resembles, with one person writing, ”Wow Thomas Markle’s genes really is strong. His grandchildren has the Markle genes.”
But while people were busy examining the tiny glimpse, the video itself was telling a much sweeter story.
Wasn’t really about Lilibet
Meghan’s post was primarily about her business.
As Ever was preparing to launch the first part of its 2026 holiday collection, and Meghan used the opportunity to look back at the entrepreneurial streak she says has been part of her personality since childhood.
She recalled starting her own little business when she was around 8 years old, making handmade scrunchies on her grandmother’s Singer sewing machine and selling them for $1 each.
She also remembered selling Girl Scout cookies, running lemonade stands and working at a frozen yogurt shop.

”My entrepreneurial spirit was always there,” she wrote.
Now, decades later, Meghan is running a lifestyle brand of her own — and her daughter was quietly appearing in the middle of that story.
That made the kitchen scene feel especially fitting.
Meghan wasn’t simply showing off a rare glimpse of her daughter. She was showing a little piece of the world she has created around her — food, family, home and business all blending together.
Talked about Lilibet finding her voice
The moment also carries a little more meaning because Meghan has previously spoken about her daughter’s personality.
During the family’s 2024 visit to Colombia, Meghan said that Lilibet had ”absolutely found her voice” and that she and Harry were ”so proud of that.”
Now, two years later, the public got to hear that voice for themselves.
And there was nothing particularly royal about the exchange.
There was no formal appearance, no red carpet and no carefully prepared speech.
It was simply a little girl standing beside her mother in the kitchen and giving her honest opinion.
”I think it’s beautiful.”
That may be why the moment resonated so strongly.
Have always been careful
Harry and Meghan’s decision to limit their children’s exposure has been deliberate.
In 2024, a friend explained that Harry’s reluctance to show Archie and Lilibet more often was connected to security concerns and his wish for them to experience as normal a childhood as possible.
That doesn’t mean the children have been completely hidden.
Quite the opposite.
Meghan and Harry have occasionally shared carefully selected glimpses of family life, including moments from their home, garden and holidays.
But there has generally been a clear difference between sharing something themselves and allowing photographers or strangers access to their children’s private lives.
That distinction became particularly clear recently after the couple’s spokesperson condemned photographers who had been seen around Archie and Lilibet’s school in Britain.
The spokesperson described the behavior as ”extraordinarily reckless” and an ”unacceptable intrusion” into the children’s privacy.
At the same time, Meghan was voluntarily sharing a few seconds of Lilibet at home.
For the couple, those are clearly two very different things.
Lilibet is growing up
There is also something else that can easily get lost beneath all the royal attention.
Lilibet is still just 5 years old.
Behind the headlines and the endless discussion about what she looks like is a little girl with her own personality, favorite things and opinions.
Harry recently revealed one particularly adorable detail about his daughter while speaking at the WellChild Awards, saying that Lilibet “loves sparkles” and “loves pink.”
Meghan has also previously described little pieces of her personality.
On With Love, Meghan, she talked about Lilibet enjoying berries, cooking, singing and dancing. She even explained that when Lili really likes something she’s eating, she starts to sway a little.
Those details offer a glimpse into her childhood that a photograph never could.
She’s not simply ”Princess Lilibet” in those moments.
She’s a little girl who likes pink, loves sparkles, helps her mom with berries and isn’t afraid to tell her exactly what she thinks.
Meghan’s daughter has been seen before
This isn’t the first time the public has seen Lilibet’s face.
One of the clearest early photographs came in 2022, when she celebrated her first birthday. In the portrait taken by family friend Misan Harriman, Lilibet faced the camera with her bright red hair clearly visible.
But images like that have remained relatively rare.
Instead, Harry and Meghan have repeatedly returned to carefully framed photographs and videos that reveal just enough without turning their children’s lives into public property.
That is why even a few seconds of new footage can attract so much attention.
People know they’re unlikely to get an endless stream of images.
So when Meghan chooses to share something, they look closely.
Now, with Harry and Meghan settling back in the U.K. for an extended stay and Lilibet starting school there, this could be the beginning of a very different chapter for the family.
After years of carefully controlled glimpses, life in Britain may mean more ordinary moments like this one — but Harry and Meghan are still making it clear that their children’s privacy comes first.
For now, though, Lilibet seems to be doing what any 5-year-old would do: going to school, helping Mom in the kitchen and growing up surrounded by the people she loves.
