Kelly Osbourne debuts shocking 28-pound weight gain

Kelly Osbourne is opening up about her weight, grief, and the painful reality of having her appearance dissected by the public.

Keep reading to know more.

After sparking widespread concern at the BRIT Awards earlier this year, Kelly Osbourne has revealed that she has gained 28 pounds in six months. She admitted that she was just as surprised as everyone else when she saw photographs of herself from the event.

The 41-year-old has spent much of her life in the spotlight, with strangers commenting on her body through every stage of her transformation. But this time, the conversation has unfolded against a much more painful backdrop: the loss of her father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and the emotional toll of trying to navigate life without him.

Now, Kelly is speaking about what she was going through privately and why appearances rarely tell the whole story.

Kelly Osbourne Says She Was “Shocked” By Her Appearance

Kelly opened up about her recent weight changes in an interview with The Sun, seven months after photographs of her at the BRIT Awards in Manchester prompted widespread discussion about her noticeably thinner appearance.

Standing alongside her mother, Sharon Osbourne, Kelly became the subject of intense online speculation. Some fans expressed concern about her health, while others questioned whether weight-loss medication might have played a role.

Kelly says the photographs surprised her, too.

She also pushed back against speculation that she had used Ozempic, a medication that has become a frequent subject of celebrity weight-loss rumors.

“I know everybody thinks I took Ozempic. I did not take Ozempic. I don’t know where that came from. My mom took Ozempic,” she previously told Extra.

Kelly also addressed what she said was happening behind the scenes emotionally.

“No one knows what people are dealing with in private, I was just sad,” she said.

Her words offer a different perspective on a conversation that has largely focused on her physical appearance. While people online debated what they thought had happened to her body, Kelly was dealing with personal pain that the photographs could never fully explain.

Kelly Has Faced Cruel Comments About Her Weight Since She Was Young

Unfortunately, public scrutiny of Kelly’s appearance is nothing new.

Growing up in the spotlight as part of the Osbourne family, she became famous as a teenager on the reality show The Osbournes. Along with the attention came criticism about her weight, including comments from people working in the entertainment industry.

Last year, Kelly recalled an agency executive telling her she was too heavy for television.

“I got pulled into the head of the agency’s office and he … gave me a whole speech about how I was too fat for TV and I needed to lose weight, and that if I lost weight, I would look better,” she said on The Osbournes podcast.

She remembered being told, “You’re not a movie star, but you could be one if you lost weight.”

Imagine hearing something like that when you’re young, trying to figure out who you are, while the world is already watching.

For Kelly, those experiences became part of a lifelong struggle with how other people perceived her body.

In 2018, she underwent gastric sleeve surgery, later describing it as “the best thing I have ever done.” She also credited changes to her diet and high-intensity interval training with helping her lose around 85 pounds.

But her weight changed again during pregnancy. While expecting her son, Sidney, in 2022, Kelly gained around 100 pounds and developed gestational diabetes. She later acknowledged that she avoided the spotlight during that period because she felt uncomfortable about her weight.

Through it all, her appearance remained a subject of public discussion, whether she gained weight, lost it, or simply looked different from what people expected.

The Loss Of Her Father Took An Enormous Emotional Toll

Kelly’s recent struggles have unfolded in the wake of a devastating loss.

Her father, Ozzy Osbourne, died in July 2025, leaving Kelly and her family to navigate life without someone who had been such a central part of their lives.

Kelly has spoken candidly about how difficult the grieving process became. On Paul C. Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk, she described feeling unable to function as she struggled to process what had happened.

“I was a shell of myself. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t do anything. I was just empty,” she said.

She continued, “Broken in every way a human being could possibly be broken and completely unable to even take care of myself. I was at ground zero. I started drinking again. I lost my mind. I couldn’t handle it.”

Kelly has previously spoken about her struggles with addiction, which began when she was young. Following her father’s death, she said she returned to drinking before working her way back to sobriety.

“I can honestly say today I’m eight months sober,” she revealed.

Her account is a reminder that grief does not follow a convenient timeline. It can affect the most basic parts of daily life; eating, sleeping, relationships, and the ability to look after yourself.

For someone who has spent decades being photographed and judged, coping with that kind of pain under public scrutiny can be especially difficult.

“I Will Never Be Over It,” Kelly Says Of Losing Her Dad

Kelly has also spoken about how the loss changed her relationships.

She explained that she had narrowed her social circle, partly because some people around her seemed uncomfortable with the depth of her sadness.

“I have the most incredible people around me. I closed my circle because I lost a lot of friends because people don’t like sadness and they expected me to be over it,” she said.

Then came the words that captured just how deeply she continues to feel her father’s absence.

“I will never be over it. I will never ever be over it.”

It is a heartbreaking admission; and one that only people who have lost a parent will understand.

The world may eventually move on after a famous person’s death, but for the people who loved them, grief is not something that simply disappears because time has passed. Birthdays, memories, family moments, and ordinary days can all bring the loss rushing back.

Kelly’s comments also help explain why the pressure to look or act a certain way can feel so disconnected from what someone is experiencing privately.

Reports Say People Close To Kelly Have Noticed The Changes

A source quoted by the Daily Mail previously claimed that people around Kelly had noticed her changing appearance and were keeping an eye on her, although they were not planning an intervention.

“Nobody near her is looking to provide an intervention, but people have noticed and are monitoring it,” the source said.

The insider also claimed that Kelly Osbourne could become upset when people brought up her appearance, despite reportedly not being concerned with how she looked herself.
