North West is firing back at critics who have called her “demonic,” defending her controversial fashion choices as mom Kim Kardashian steps in to support her 13-year-old daughter.
At just 13, North West – the oldest of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s four children – has already stirred controversy with her bold approach to fashion, from dramatic makeup and bright blue hair to an assortment of unusual piercings.
“All I want is blue hair and piercings,” North said in a September 2026 interview with Dazed, explaining that her look is inspired by Japanese virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku. “They just make you your full self.
‘Double brow in Pre-K’
During a recent TikTok livestream with her mother, North addressed the controversy surrounding her appearance, while Kardashian, 45, explained that her daughter’s fascination with unconventional fashion started long before she became a teenager.
“When she was a baby, dropping her off at school, all she wanted was her septum pierced and her eyebrow pierced,” Kardashian said in a clip shared on X. “She would do like a double brow in pre-K going in with fake piercings.”
She “always has told us for the longest time who she is and what she loves, and what she’s about. And just seeing her dress like a way she wants – I love that about her, she’s never changed,” said Kardashian, who also shares Saint, 10, Chicago, 8 and 7-year-old Psalm with Kanye – now known as Ye.
North even addressed speculation that her changing appearance was somehow connected to her parents’ divorce, which was finalized in 2022.
“So, you guys can’t say, where did the style [come from], is this style from the divorce? No, queen,” the teenager insisted.
Mom addresses North’s piercings
As North’s style has evolved, so has the controversy surrounding her body modifications, with particular attention paid to jewelry on her face, hands, thighs and neck.
However, the teenager revealed that the piercings attracting criticism aren’t real, pointing to the accessories on her cheeks as an example.
“Guys, these piercings are not real,” North explained of the facial piercing stickers, according to People. “I change them so much that you guys think it’s real.”
“Yeah, how do people think that they’re real? If they’re all different, all the time?” Kardashian asked.
“Like every day,” North said.
‘We can glue for now’
Although her mother supports her creativity, North acknowledged that there are limits to how far she’s allowed to take her appearance.
“I love a bridge. I want a bridge so bad, but if I actually pierced it – I’m not allowed to get a piercing until, like, you guys, we’ll see – but a bridge piercing, the scarring is so crazy,” she said.
Still, her interest in experimenting with fashion hasn’t faded.
“It’s so crazy, but I don’t know. I might risk it when I’m older,” she shared about a future bridge piercing, while her mom shook her head “no” in the background. “And I really want cheeks.”
We can glue on for now,” Kardashian said.
And while her fascination with piercings has generated plenty of discussion, it’s the accusations surrounding her darker outfits that North appears particularly determined to challenge.
‘Stop saying I’m demonic’
During the livestream, North confronted viewers who had associated her appearance with something sinister.
“Stop saying I’m demonic. No, I’m not. Just because I like to dress this way, don’t judge a book by its cover,” she said in the clip.
Kardashian suggested that “people say that because of the black grills and just, like, piercings and stuff.”
“But I don’t know why you guys should put that with demonic because I don’t get that,” North answered.
‘I’m actually a light, not dark.’
The teen then explained that she had deliberately chosen a very different look for her first headlining performance at Chicago’s Vic Theatre in September, wearing an all-white “gothic Lolita” outfit intended to challenge assumptions about her beliefs.
“I was like, if I’m gonna do my first show ever, I gotta come in like an angel in all white. You guys know I’m not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus. That’s how I came to show you guys I’m actually a light, not dark.”
Kardashian reflected on how easily outsiders can misunderstand someone’s life, particularly when they only see fragments of it online.
“Isn’t it funny – well not funny but kind of crazy, when you see things and people say something about a narrative about your life and then it’s just so the opposite? They think they know and say it. It’s so crazy.”
What do you think of North West’s unconventional style? Should parents encourage teenagers to express themselves through fashion, or are there limits? Please let us know your thoughts and then share this story so we can hear from others!
