Nicole Arena, a New York City-based TikTok fitness influencer, sparked an online debate after claiming that Disney World staff objected to her outfit during a visit to Epcot and required her to buy a new shirt.

The incident that has caused this conversation actually took place in June 2025, when Nicole Arena visited the Florida theme park with her husband, John Whitespot, who is also a fitness influencer and personal trainer.
After the trip, Nicole shared a TikTok post criticizing Disney, claiming she had been forced to purchase a $45 T-shirt before being allowed to board a ride she had already waited an hour for.
Although she later deleted the post from her social media accounts, the controversy resurfaced in October 2026, prompting another round of discussion about what visitors should wear at family-oriented theme parks.
Nicole Arena Says Disney Staff Made Her Buy A $45 T-Shirt
Nicole visited Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park in Bay Lake, Florida, sometime before June 24, 2025.
At the time, she had recently married John Whitespot, with the couple tying the knot approximately two months before their visit.
Following the trip, Nicole took to TikTok to explain why she was unhappy with her experience.
“I was so happy to be here that I didn’t realize I was ‘improperly dressed’ and would be forced to buy a $45 T-shirt or else I could not get on the ride I waited an hour for,” she said.
In a selfie shared alongside her husband, Nicole wore a white Nike sports bra, while John was dressed in a black tank top and a backward cap.
She did not report that Disney staff had raised any concerns about her husband’s clothing.
Nicole later posted another video showing more of her outfit and defended her decision to wear it to the park.
“I really didn’t think anything of this, to be honest,” she said.
However, her explanation did not convince everyone, and several social media users criticized her choice of clothing.
Nicole responded in another video, saying, “I had nothing showing other than my stomach and my arms, but you guys are acting like I went out naked.”
After she deleted her video, her husband publicly defended and sided with his wife, thanking those who said kind words. He wrote, “Throughout all of the hate we get and support we receive, it’s always just me and you l. I could care less if someone thinks your outfit was inappropriate because we both know that neither one of us would feel comfortable or ok with anything that would expose you in any way. That’s not how we live and that’s not what we believe is correct”
He continued by suggesting that his wife had been singled out.
“I know that people are always going to have something to say even when there’s nothing wrong and when there are others who are actually improperly dressed,” he said. “I’ll stand by the fact that we know you were singled out, and it’s not ok.”
Social Media Users Debate Whether Her Outfit Was Appropriate For Disney World
However, people still debated whether the couple was in the right. One person commented, “Just be considerate of others. I don’t think it is too much to ask.” While another added, “Gym clothes are for the gym. A 3 year old knows that.”
Others thought the entire issue had been blown out of proportion. One person wrote, “Typical influences making a big deal out of nothing. Should’ve looked up their dress code before going. It’s a family park, not a beach.”
Some Viewers Questioned Why Her Husband Was Not Also Asked To Cover Up
Another part of the debate centered on the difference between Nicole’s outfit and her husband’s clothing.
While Nicole wore a sports bra that exposed her stomach and arms, John wore a sleeveless black tank top.
One person wrote, “lol john your basically n***d and they let that slide 😂”
Disney’s Dress Code Requires Guests To Wear Shirts And Shoes
Disney has an official dress code covering its theme parks and resorts, and the company reserves the right to refuse entry or remove guests whose attire it considers inappropriate.
Its guidelines state that “proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times.”
The rules also prohibit clothing that drags on the ground, costumes and face masks for guests aged 14 and older, and visible tattoos featuring objectionable language or designs.
Disney explains that it may deny admission to or remove anyone wearing clothing it considers inappropriate or likely to detract from other guests’ experiences.
Some clothing restrictions can also be connected to safety requirements, particularly for certain attractions.
However, the published dress code does not automatically establish that every sports bra or crop top is prohibited. Whether a particular outfit violates the rules can depend on the circumstances and how the park applies its policies
