Prince George wears matching clothes with dad William as they break tradition

Prince George has spent years dressing like his dad but his latest appearance with William broke the familiar pattern, drawing fresh attention to the sweet reason behind their matching outfits.

On a rainy Nov. 3 evening, the Prince of Wales and his eldest son headed to Spain to cheer on their beloved Aston Villa as the English club faced Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League.

While the match ended in disappointment for Villa supporters, royal watchers may have noticed something unusual about the young prince.

Now 13 and attending Eton College, George appears to be developing a style of his own, a noticeable change from his previous football appearances.

Instead of the smart suits and coordinated outfits he frequently wears alongside William, George sported an Adidas Aston Villa jacket, while his father opted for a coat and cap.

Matching with dad

It was quite a departure from his previous football appearances. When Villa played in Paris in April 2025, George wore a navy blazer, and at the Euro 2024 final in Berlin, William and his mini-me turned up in matching dark suits.

And when George joined his father at Wimbledon in 2022, his suit raised eyebrows among fans who wondered why the young royal was dressed so formally in the sweltering London heat.

But George’s habit of dressing like his father goes well beyond football, and there’s a particularly sweet reason behind it.

‘Absolute hero’

From royal celebrations to the stands at Wimbledon, the pair have frequently appeared in matching or similarly styled suits, a habit that has sparked curiosity about why George seems so fond of his father’s wardrobe.

And according to Woman & Home, there is a touching explanation behind the resemblance.

“Prince William is George’s absolute hero. He thinks his dad’s the most perfect person on the planet. George idolizes his dad,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told the outlet. “That’s why we saw him looking so smart in his suit – he really wanted to dress like William.”

And George’s admiration for his father was just as evident in his eagerness to spend time with him. In 2021, the young prince joined William to watch England face Germany at Euro 2020 (held in 2021), where he again appeared in a formal suit.

George begged parents

Larcombe explained that George had been desperate to attend the match and pleaded with his parents to let him go.

“William would never have normally taken him to the football because it was an official outing in his role as president of the FA, but George absolutely begged to be allowed to come along,” said the expert.

“Kate and William are at pains to never expose the children unnecessarily to the cameras but he twisted their arm eventually,” Larcombe added.
