Artist uses recycled materials to create towering wooden trolls that live in forests around the world

Imagine walking through the forest and coming upon a giant troll. Your first reaction might be to scream, right?

Not if you saw one of these creatures.

The giant wood sculptures live in the forests surrounding Copenhagen, Denmark and have since spread to other parts of the world.

Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist and according to his website, he’s been building things since he was a child. Currently he uses trash or recycled items as the media for his creations.

“By doing this he hopes to inspire people to have fun and think of trash as a resource.”

He creates anything from small furniture pieces to larger than life wooden sculptures that are hidden away from people.

Dambo uses any kind of wood that he can get his hands on to create his sculptures.

“Mainly from 600 old pallets, an old wooden shed, a fence and what ever else I was able to scavenge,” he wrote on Bored Panda.

He also enlists the help of local volunteers to create each sculpture and as a thank you the sculptures are named after one of them.
