The exodus from Brad Pitt’s famous surname continues, with his youngest daughter, Vivienne, becoming the fourth of his six children with Angelina Jolie to legally drop his name.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were among Hollywood’s most famous couples, building a family of six children during a relationship that started on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004.
Six Jolie-Pitts
Before meeting Pitt, Jolie, now 51, was already raising Maddox, 25, whom she adopted from Cambodia in 2002, when Zahara, 21, joined the family from Ethiopia in 2005. The Fight Club star later became their adoptive father, and the couple welcomed their first biological child, Shiloh, now 20, in 2006.
The family grew again in 2007 when the Tomb Raider star adopted Pax, 22, from Vietnam, with Pitt legally becoming his father the following year. That same year, Jolie gave birth to twins Knox and Vivienne, 18, bringing the family to six children.
After years together, Pitt, 62, and Jolie became engaged in 2012 and married at their home in France in August 2014, surrounded by the family they had built together.
Two years later, that marriage was over.
And as their children reached adulthood, the fallout from the family’s fractured relationship became increasingly visible through a series of decisions involving the name they had carried since childhood.
Four children drop Pitt
The first to officially break away from the Jolie-Pitt surname was Shiloh, who celebrated her 18th birthday in May 2024 by filing a petition to legally become Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
Her older siblings Maddox and Zahara followed in 2026, with both receiving court approval in September to remove their father’s name.
And now, Vivienne has joined her siblings, bringing the number of children who have legally dropped Pitt to four.
According to People, the teen had filed her petition in July, just days after turning 18, explaining that her decision was “personal.”
On Nov. 2, her request came before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Virginia Keeny, who officially approved her new identity.
“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” Keeny said, according to Page Six. “The Petitioner’s name is changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.”
Her twin brother Knox has also reportedly used Jolie alone on his high school diploma, although he has not been confirmed to have legally changed his name. Pax, meanwhile, has not publicly announced plans to drop Pitt.
With four of their six children now legally using Jolie alone, the surname once associated with one of Hollywood’s most famous families continues to fade from the next generation.
