It’s a painstakingly emotional photo. Cat Andrew is over 15 years old, and unfortunately has become quite sick over the last year. The most compassionate thing to do was therefore to put him down.
But it seems Andrew was more aware of the situation than one might imagine. On their final, sad journey to the vet, the cat reached out and held mom and dad’s hands with his little paw, as if to comfort them.
The image, which then went viral via social sharing site Reddit, brought tears streaming down my face. I hope Andrew is enjoying cat heaven!
It was on social site Reddit that a touching post by user “abernha3” received considerable attention in recent days, after the user posted a photo of him in his car with the family cat – heading to the vet’s for one final, difficult visit…
It was time for their cat Andrew to be put down. But amazingly, the cat showed great courage during that final journey.
“He held our hands on his last trip to the vet,” the Reddit user writes. “Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I.”
Other users were quick to offer their sympathy, and tell their own, difficult cat death stories.
“Little Andrew was my junior. He was 15 and a half and loved everyone, but just got old and sick over the last year,” Andrew’s owner wrote. “He purred everyday of his life and when he lost that, I knew it was time. Always sad to lose a friend. Sorry for everybody else’s losses as well.”
While it’s heartbreaking to see Andrew on his way to his final resting place, it was so nice to see him comfort his mum and dad. It makes you realize that the grief of losing a pet is always offset by the privilege to have experienced the love.
