‘American Idol’ alum wants to put her name ‘in the hat’ to replace Katy Perry as judge after season 22

After news broke that Katy Perry plans to leave American Idol after season 22, plenty of people began speculating who could take her place.

But one person already stepped forward to throw her name in the hat.

Keep reading to learn who.

While Jennifer Lopez’s name has been thrown around as a possibility to replace Perry, if a former American Idol alum has her way she’ll go from a fan-favorite contestant to judge.

Once Perry announced she was seeking other opportunities, Jordin Sparks, who won American Idol in 2007, revealed she was interested in the open position.

The 34-year-old singer tweeted, “Oh hiiii @AmericanIdol—I hear a seat opened up at the judges table! I’m putting my name in the hat!”

Sparks’ followers were quick to support her effort to become one of Idol‘s next judges.

“Please do. Honestly. I think having an Og winner is exactly what it needs,” one user wrote.

“This is a perfect choice, she can guide them through something she’s experienced! Maybe a new star will be discovered.. like the good old days!”

“It’s about time they cast a former winner as a judge! It’s only right and you would be perfection,” another person tweeted.

Sparks won American Idol in 2007 when she was 17 years old. She became the youngest person to win the singing competition.

During the finale she performed “This is My Now”, which would become her debut single, to beat out Blake Lewis.
