Britney Spears speaks out against new TMZ documentary: ‘The media has always been cruel to me’

Nearly two years after Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship ended, a new documentary is spilling the details and showing the “growing signs of trouble” inside Spears’ life.

TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom featured multiple sources and experts who commented on the 41-year-old’s behavior while videos the pop star have shared on social media played in the background.

Reaction to TMZ’s documentary was swift.

Fans were quick to defend Spears while she issued a statement on Instagram saying in part, “The media has always been cruel to me.”

In the documentary experts claim she lives an isolated lifestyle, which is “not good.” They also discuss how she “drinks coffee, Red Bull, Celsius, and dandelion tea by the gallons and that contributes to her manic episodes.”

And when she’s not hyped up on caffeine, “Sometimes she’ll sleep for days. One source called her a ‘binge’-sleeper. She’ll sleep for three days, and then she won’t sleep at all for the next few.”

The documentary also discussed her relationship with her sons and husband.

TMZ producer Katie Hayes reported Spears hadn’t seen her teenage sons “in well over a year.”

“By the end of last summer, tensions between them had gotten so bad, the boys weren’t even responding to her texts, and she was furious.”

Sources also said she has a “volatile” relationship with her husband Sam Asghari.

Several days after the documentary aired, Spears addressed the production on social media.

“The concern and just effort on TMZ’s part of being the trashiest news channel for news !!! Damn I’m flattered !!!” she wrote. “These men who I have no idea who they are, are talking about me as if they have any right at all to do so !!!”

“The media has always been cruel to me and most people probably wouldn’t even comment on it but I do think some people might believe this and I care !!! I almost feel like my life in the business has always been that girl at school who was bullied and laughed at !!! But in my case there is no superior person to set it straight !!! My dad was supposedly the one who was supposed to protect my mind and heart from things of this matter but he was the main one who was secretly loving it !!!”

Spears said she believe “some people are wanting to hear my story … either through a book or what have you,” but anticipates it taking a year or longer to share her story.
