Candace Cameron Bure and her husband, Valeri Bure, have been married for almost 30 years. The former Full House star met her husband, a former NHL star, when she was only 18 years old. Today, they have three children and are living a peaceful life in Canada. However, marriage isn’t always easy. On her podcast, Candace makes a heartfelt admission that they almost divorced five years ago — but an unexpected person saved the marriage.
Candace Cameron Bure became a household name after getting the role of DJ Tanner in the hit series Full House. Besides fame and fortune, the role would also lead her to meet the person she would marry.
Back in 1994, when Candace was 18 years old, she and her Full House co-stars attended a charity hockey game. NHL superstar Pavel Bure was playing, but Candace took more notice of his brother, Valeri, playing for the Montreal Canadiens at the time.
“[Lori Loughlin and I] were looking at these two cute men on the ice, and I was like, ‘I wanna meet that one, the blonde one,’ which was [Valeri],” she said, per US Magazine.
She was instantly drawn to Valeri, and her co-star Dave Coulier introduced her to him. The rest is history. Candace was about to find out that Valeri already knew who she was.
“He would watch ‘Full House’ because it helped him learn English,” she said, laughing. “We hit it off.”

The next day, Candace and Valeri went out on a date, and less than a year later, they were engaged. On June 22, 1996, the couple married. She moved to Canada with her husband, and soon after, the couple welcomed a daughter, Natasha. A few years later, she gave birth to sons Lev and Maksim.
According to herself, Candace was a” proud” and” overprotecting” mother. While raising her children, she kept a close eye on their computers and cell phones.
“I am so overly protective when it comes to technology because there are so many dangers associated with it,” Candace told People in 2020.
Valeri and Candace Cameron Bure have now been married for nearly 30 years. Candace and Valeri have had two very different careers, but have always made sure to save time for each other. Since their days as newlywed teenagers, the couple still holds love for each other. However, it hasn’t been an easy ride.
On her latest episode of her podcast, The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, Candace reveals that she and her husband almost called it quits five years ago, just before the pandemic hit the world. She explained they went through a “really rough season” in their marriage in 2020.
“It was going south quickly,” she said, “and we were like, ‘I don’t know, don’t think … we’re gonna make it through.'”

But help came from an unexpected direction. Candace Cameron Bure continued by revealing that it was one of her sons, Lev, who actually helped save their marriage
“At one point, Lev, Maks and Natasha, but Lev was the one leading the charge. He came up to us and said, ‘We’d like to talk to you guys,'” she recalled. “Val and I sat down and Lev preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us. Just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it.”
She added, “And I’ll never forget, ’cause he said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says.'”
The former Full House and Fuller House star explained that Lev had “such a calm voice that had so much wisdom behind it,” as he sat his parents down to talk.
“He looked us straight in the eye and individually asked me and then asked Val, ‘Have you done everything you can? Is there one step of grace, is there just some bit of more grace you can give? Is there one more act of kindness in you that you could give to try to reconcile?'” Candace continued. “When we walked away from that and Val and I were like, ‘Huh, we raised some pretty good kids.'”
Son Lev saved their marriage
Lev’s advice became a “pivotal moment” in Candace Cameron Bure and Valeri’s marriage. She further said on her podcast that it “really changed their dynamig,” that she is “so grateful” for her children being so supportive.
Their son, Lev, also appeared on the podcast, explaining how and why he decided to act when he saw his parents’ marriage heading downward. He stated that it “came from a point of love.”
“Even when my siblings and I talked about it, it was like, ‘Man, we really want more than anything for our parents to be together, but let’s get to the matter of fact,'” he said on The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast. “‘It’s only gonna happen through Jesus.’ So that was all we could point them to.”
