A funeral service was held in her honor at Père Lachaise on Friday afternoon (July 21).

Josephine was one of the eight children of Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill. Throughout his life, Chaplin became a father to a total of 11 children to three of his wives. Prior to O’Neill, the renowned English comic was also married to Mildred Harris, Paulette Goddard, and Lita Grey.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Josephine embarked on her own acting career and appeared alongside him in Limelight, a film that was also written and directed by Chaplin.

In 1967, she starred in another Chaplin film titled A Countess From Hong Kong, and also acted in other movies like The Man Without a Face and Shadowman.

Josephine wed Greek businessman Nikki Sistovaris in 1969, although the couple divorced eight years later in 1977. Then, in 1989, Josephine married archaeologist Jean-Claude Gardin, and the pair stayed together until Gardin’s death in 2013.

Both Charlie Chaplin and Oona O’Neill have already passed away, with Chaplin succumbing to a stroke on Christmas Day in 1977 at the age of 88, and O’Neill passing away in 1990.

Our thoughts go out to Josephine Chaplin’s family and friends at this difficult time.
