Dakota Johnson has been in a relationship with Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, for over seven years now. It was then revealed that Martin proposed to Johnson in 2020, and the couple has been engaged ever since.
Last week, rumors began to circulate that the two of them had called it quits. MailOnline’s even reported a source saying, “Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work.”
“They’ll always have love for each other but they’ve both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term.”
The source said both were “busy people,” with Martin having been in Europe for Coldplay’s tour and “personal priorities, passions and work commitments which don’t naturally intertwine with each other.”
“They wanted it to work but it just hasn’t, and they’ve now accepted it is best to move on.”
However, the rumor was quickly debunked by Dakota Johnson’s team. “They are happily together,” the actress’ rep told People last Friday.
Sources have claimed Johnson was spotted as recently as two weeks ago cheering on Martin as his band played in Helsinki, Finland.
While a representative for Johnson had already cleared the matter up for the public, the actress seemed to really want to get her point across herself, so she did something she knew would make waves around the world.
The actress was out and about in Malibu this weekend. She was hanging out with friends Jeremy Allen White and Blake Lee. The actress noticed the paparazzi were busy sneaking pictures of her. She immediately raised her hand and showed it to the group, busily snapping her photos.
The actress intentionally showed the back of her hand to the cameras, flashing her massive emerald engagement ring still on her ring finger. She was confirming that she was very much still engaged to Martin, lest anyone still have any doubts.
The rumor itself began because Johnson was seen out hiking without her wedding ring, so it seems only appropriate that she showed it off while wearing it to put any rumors to rest.
While the actress might have been putting the rumors to bed once and for all, it seems not everyone was convinced. A Facebook user commented on her picture saying, “That looks like [an] old picture.” While another added, “She can’t admit she became a beard.” While another said, “That doesn’t look like an engagement ring.” It seems some people will never be convinced!
