Diddy forced to pay Sting $5,000 every day for sampling his hit song ‘Every Breath You Take’ 26 years ago

Twenty-six years ago Sean “Diddy” Combs sampled Sting’s hit song “Every Breath You Take” on his 1997 single “I’ll Be Missing You.”

And it may have been one of the most costly decisions he ever made.

Ever since Diddy has paid Sting $5,000 in royalties to Sting for sampling his song without persmission.

Yikes!

Although there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between the two.

Diddy shared the truth after a resurfaced clip from 2018 made its way around Twitter where the former Police frontman said Diddy only asked permission after he recorded his tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G.

Sting said Diddy was paying him $2,000 in royalties every day “for the rest of his life.”

But it turns out that wasn’t true or at least according to the rapper.

He responded to the tweet saying, “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @Official Sting!”

Despite the large sum of money – $1,825,000 – Diddy owes Sting each year, the two are “good pals still.”

The lesson here? Ask first or you might owe someone a lot of money in the end.
