Days after announcing her first rock album, Dolly Parton premiered the lead single, “World on Fire,” off “Rockstar” during the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards.
The 77-year-old queen of country went full on rock ‘n’ roll as she sang “World on Fire” while dressed in a gigantic white dress covered in a map of the world, flanked by plenty of backup dancers, and even more pyrotechnics.
“This is a song I felt very inspired to write. I think it speaks about everything and to everyone this day and time. I hope it is something that will touch you and maybe touch enough people to want to make a change for the better,” Parton said in a statement.
Parton, known for her countless country hits, announced May 9 that she was now a rockstar.
Following her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Queen of Nashville revealed she had “joined forces with some of Rock music’s legendary artists along with today’s biggest stars” to create an album with nine original songs and 21 “iconic rock anthems.”
“I am very honored and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!”
Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, P!nk, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Melissa Etheridge are just some of the artists who teamed up with Parton for her debut rock album.
On May 11 Parton released “World on Fire” to stream ahead of the November 17 album release.
She also performed the single for the first time the same night during the Academy of Country Music Awards.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t wait to hear the rest of her rock songs!
