Dolly Parton’s $1 million donation helped fund 95% effective COVID-19 vaccine

In April, Dolly Parton shared that she was donating $1 million to Vanderbilt University’s coronavirus research.

“My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure,” she shared on Instagram.

Now, nearly eight months later fans are again praising Parton, this time for playing a role in helping to fund the second coronavirus vaccine with an astonishing high success rate.

Parton’s name appears in the preliminary report on Moderna’s vaccine, which has been shown to be 94.5% effective.

“The Dolly Parton Covid-19 Research Fund” appears alongside the National Institutes of Health, Emory University, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“What better time right now, we need this,” she said in April. “I felt like this was the time for me to open my heart and my hand, and try to help.”

This isn’t the first time Parton has donated to chairty or created a foundation.

In 1995, she launched the Imagination Library, a reading initiative that mails a book every month to children from the time they’re born to age five.

The charity was inspired by her father.

“When I decided what I was going to do for a great charity, then I thought well I’m gonna do this: to get books in the hands of children, because if you can learn to read, if you can read, you can self-educate yourself,” she told CNBC in 2016.

She also pledged to donate $1,000 a month when wildfires ravaged Tennessee.

“I’m just happy that anything I do can help somebody else, and when I donated the money to the Covid fund, I just wanted it to do good. Evidently, it is. Let’s just hope we find a cure real soon,” Parton told TODAY.

I wish more people would be like Dolly Parton! She uses her money and resources wisely by helping others. Thank you Dolly!
