Iconic singer Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. On Friday, the star was admitted to a hospital in Nashville, and on Tuesday she passed away.
The star is now being mourned around the world. For many, the news came as a shock, and the grief is overwhelming. Dolly Parton leaves behind a catalogue of around 1,500 songs, including unforgettable hits such as “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”

But the star kept her illness private until the very end. Just two weeks before her death, on August 12, a video of Dolly Parton was published on Instagram. In the clip, the singer is wearing a gold dress and promoting her museum, My Life of Many Colors Museum, which is due to open in Nashville this autumn.
“From rags to rhinestones… I’ve been blessed with a life full of stories. And now I finally get to share them with you,” she says in the clip.
It is not currently known when the video was recorded. However, it was likely her final public appearance. After this video, Dolly Parton posted an old clip of herself performing with Kenny Rogers, singing “Islands in the Stream.”
“43 years of ‘Islands in the Stream’,” Dolly Parton wrote alongside the clip, followed by a heart emoji.
Both of the artist’s most recent Instagram videos received thousands of likes from followers. The comment sections are filled with hearts and messages of love for the icon. And some who thought she knew what was coming.
One person commented, “Omg she knew it was that time she lived a wonderful life.” While another wrote, “She knew her health, she knew, I feel it in my bones she knew.” One fan wrote that the museum was her final gift to her fans, writing, “I’m convinced this was her last gift to use before she passed. She knew what she was [going]”
While another added, “Wow… this museum is going to be like the ultimate funeral.”
The news of her death was announced by her family on Tuesday.
After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” the statement read.
Dolly Parton spent her final year as a widow. Her husband, Carl Dean, died in March last year. The couple had no children together, but Parton leaves behind many nieces and nephews who are now mourning her as is the rest of the world.
