A GoFundMe page appeared, reportedly set up by a friend and member of Mickey Rourke’s management team. The page alleged that the actor ‘is facing a very real and urgent situation’.
It said that Rourke owes his landlord almost $60,000 in unpaid rent and has been facing the threat of eviction on non-payment, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The fundraiser claimed that it had Rourke’s ‘full permission’ and that he was aware of it.
In an update, it has been revealed that Mickey Rourke was unaware of the fundraiser and has asked fans not to donate to it. The actor is speaking to his lawyer about the entire situation.
In the GoFundMe that had been set up by Liya-Joelle Jones, it said, “Mickey is facing a very real and urgent situation: the threat of eviction from his home. This fundraiser is being created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent that from happening.”
It went on to add, “Mickey Rourke is an icon—but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one. It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability.”
The bio also said Rourke, ‘deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing’, and added, “The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet.”
The GoFundMe had a target of $100,000 and had raised over $57,000 in just 24 hours. Jones, who set up the campaign said, “Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help.”
The actor and professional boxer reportedly rented the property for $5,200 per month which was later increased to $7,000. The first time Rourke’s financial troubles came to light was when he exited from Celebrity Big Brother last year after displaying unacceptable behavior.
The former boxer made homophobic remarks towards fellow contestant JoJo Siwa which resulted in a confrontation with Chris Hughes. While there was no physical altercation, Rourke’s actions were considered ‘threatening and aggressive.’ He later apologized for the entire ordeal.
This is such a strange situation, considering Rourke has come out and denied any knowledge of this fundraiser. Share this with others so they are aware about the situation as well.
