Hank Williams Jr says he is ‘blessed’ and ‘thankful’ after surviving horrific accident

Hank Williams Jr. has spoken about how his bright future was almost cut short following a horrific accident that left him fighting for his life.

The 74-year-old country musician reflected on the incident in a recent Instagram post, where he wrote: “48 years ago today, 530 feet and 17 operations later, this picture says it all. I am a very blessed and thankful man.”

He accompanied the post with a photo that vividly captured his chilling fall.

Williams Jr. was just 26 years old when a climbing mishap caused him to slip and plummet off Montana’s Ajax Mountain. The consequences were serious, resulting in severe injuries, including multiple facial and skull fractures, per USA Today.

The unfortunate accident occurred just as Williams Jr. was about to embark on promoting his highly successful album, ‘Hank Williams Jr. and Friends’.

In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Williams Jr. recalled waking up in the hospital, surrounded by two pretty famous figures.

“Many people don’t realize that June Carter Cash was my godmother. She and my mother were very close. When I fell, there were only two people I saw when I woke up in the hospital bed, and that was Johnny [Cash] and June,” he said.

“June placed a cross on me and reassured me that everything would be alright. I never knew if I would sing, talk, or even think again, let alone contemplate my appearance. It was an alarming period, but having individuals like Waylon [Jennings], Johnny, and June by my side truly helped me,” he added.

Hank Williams Jr., the son of the late Hank Williams Sr., has achieved remarkable success throughout his life, even through some profoundly distressing times.

In 2022, Williams Jr.’s wife, Mary Jane Thomas, passed away at 58 due to complications from “a collapsed lung that was punctured during elective surgery,” as reported by Fox News.

Two years earlier, in 2020, his daughter Katherine tragically lost her life in a car accident.

Before that, his other daughters, Hilary and Holly, were involved in a serious car crash in 2013. Hilary was pronounced dead twice before miraculously regaining a pulse.

What a legend, and what a show of resilience from Hank Williams Jr.
