The Late Late Show with James Corden will air its final episode on Thursday, and all week Corden and his staff have been preparing to say goodbye by revisiting some of the most memorable moments of the show’s eight-year run.
And on last night’s episode, James Corden brought on a couple with a very special connection to the show — and gave them the surprise of a lifetime.
Back in 2015, when the show was still brand new, Corden had a segment called “Sidewalk Soulmates” in which he introduced two total strangers on the sidewalk and invited them to have a first date on the show.
He found a man named Daniel and set out to find him a match, eventually finding a woman named Evelyn who agreed to an on-air date.
But what was meant as a silly comedy bit actually turned out to be a life-changing moment for Daniel and Evelyn: they hit it off and continued to date, and soon realized they were in fact “soulmates.”
“I feel like James possibly knew we had a connection before we even did,” Evelyn said on The Late Late Show.
In 2019, they got engaged, and set a wedding date for April 2020. Their wedding was supposed to be in Malibu, officiated by James Corden. However, their plans were dashed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The couple ultimately got married with a low-key courthouse wedding. “It was a special day still, full of smiles,” Evelyn said.
James Corden called their relationship “the thing I am more proud of than anything we have done on the show,” and in honor of his last week as host had the couple back on as guests during Tuesday’s show.
Corden caught up with the couple, saying that his staff have been keeping up with their story for the past eight years. Their appearance on the show coincided with their third wedding anniversary.
“You and your show have been so meaningful,” Daniel told the host. “The most important introduction of our lives.”
After catching up, Corden revealed a big surprise for the couple.
“You never had your big dream wedding reception,” Corden tells the couple. “Why don’t we at The Late Late Show try and throw you a wedding reception in three minutes right here, right now.”
The set was transformed into a makeshift wedding reception with cake and flowers. Corden then revealed another surprise: since their families couldn’t be there, he brought the Jonas Brothers on stage as groomsmen.
“Eveyln we have loved you since the moment we met you,” Kevin Jonas joked. “So like 25 seconds ago.”
“Handsome, hilarious, loyal, caring, total catch,” Joe Jonas added. “But enough about me, tonight is about Daniel!”
Then, he revealed the sweetest surprise of all. The couple said they planned to dance to Norah Jones at their wedding… so Corden revealed the real Norah Jones, who performed “Come Away with Me” for the couple as they had their first dance.

Corden also revealed that Expedia was sponsoring their honeymoon, offering them free round-trip tickets to anywhere in the world, including hotel and car rentals.
It’s incredible to think that a comedy segment on The Late Late Show actually led to a couple finding true love. What a special way to say goodbye to the show in its final week!
