Jennifer Lopez recently chose to honor her 2021 song “Cambia El Paso,” a track about making life changes, amid ongoing rumors of a potential divorce from Ben Affleck.
On Sunday, Lopez shared the official music video for the song on Instagram. Released in July 2021, “Cambia El Paso,” which translates to “Change the Step,” features lyrics like “He doesn’t deserve to have her in his arms” and “one, two, three, move forward,” emphasizing themes of empowerment and moving on.
The song includes lines such as “all she wanna do is just dance, dance, dance, dance” and “Her life is better now without him … she doesn’t need anyone to be well / She does not fail, she does not fail.”
These empowering lyrics and the timing of the song’s release, shortly after Lopez’s split from former MLB star Alex Rodriguez, have led many to perceive it as a “breakup song.”
In her Instagram post, Lopez celebrated the song’s anniversary, captioning the video with: “Happy Anniversary Cambia El Paso,” accompanied by a sun and palm tree emoji.
Despite her post being limited to certain commenters, some users were able to express their support for Lopez. One fan wrote: “If something’s not feeling right, whatever it is in your life, just make that change, move, and dance.”
Another added: “Change the path!!! Just keep pushing through and make that change…. I love you very much Jen, I hope you know that.”
Lopez previously explained the meaning behind “Cambia El Paso” during a 2021 interview on SiriusXM’s Pitbull’s Globalization. “The song is about change and not being afraid to take the step. Like, just take the step, advance, do what you need to do,” she said. “If something’s not feeling right, whatever it is in your life, like, just make that move and dance.” Lopez elaborated that “dance means life and joy and happiness,” emphasizing the importance of being oneself and finding happiness.
Despite the uplifting message of her song, rumors of marital troubles between Lopez and Affleck have continued, especially after they spent the Fourth of July holiday apart. Affleck was seen with his kids in Los Angeles, while Lopez celebrated with friends in the Hamptons. Both were spotted wearing their wedding rings, with Lopez wearing hers on the East Coast and Affleck wearing his during a lunch outing with his child, Fin, in Los Angeles.
The couple, who married in July 2022, have typically celebrated past Independence Days together. However, this year, Lopez was without her husband amid the swirling divorce rumors.
According to sources, Affleck has moved his belongings out of their shared home. Lopez is currently living in their $60.8 million Beverly Hills mansion, while Affleck, 51, is residing in a rental in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, as reported by People magazine.
