Jeremy Renner returns to hospital to thank medical staff who saved his life

It’s been a difficult year for Hollywood star Jeremy Renner, who suffered severe injuries after a snow plow accident on January 1. He was hospitalized in critical condition and broke over 30 bones.

But now, the actor is back on his feet and has been making his first public appearances since the accident — and recently paid a very special visit to thank the people who saved his life.

Jeremy Renner – accident

On January 1, the 52-year-old actor was involved in an accident in which he was run over by a 14,330-pound snowcat at his home in Washoe County, Nevada.

According to reports, Renner was removing snow from his nephew’s driveway. When the vehicle began to slide down the street towards his nephew, Renner intervened to save him but was dragged under the track.

“I see him in a pool of blood coming from his head,” Renner’s nephew Alex said in an interview with Diane Sawyer. “I ran up to him. I didn’t think he was alive.”

“What’s my body going to look like?” Renner recalled thinking. “Am I just going to be a spine and a brain like a science experiment?”

Renner suffered blunt chest trauma, and later revealed he broke over 30 bones in his body. After being airlifted to the hospital, Renner was said to be in critical but stable condition and was in the intensive care unit.

The actor’s injuries were life-threatening, and at one point he wrote last words to his family in case he didn’t survive.

But thanks to the care he received at the hospital, Renner made a steady recovery. He regained the ability to walk and was released from the hospital on January 17.

Visit to hospital

In recent weeks, the actor has regained enough strength to return to public life. He has appeared in interviews with Diane Sawyer and Jimmy Kimmel, and made his first public appearance since the accident at the premiere of his new show Rennervations.

Recently, he also returned to the hospital — but this time for a positive reason.

According to Instagram posts, Jeremy Renner paid a special return visit to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, where he received medical care.

“I got to revisit the amazing group of people who saved my life,” he wrote.

Photos show the actor posing for photos with hospital staff. The staff was happy to have their celebrity former patient back for a visit: they put up a sign that says “Welcome Back.”

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Renner said he was eager to leave the hospital while he was a recovering there — and says he wasn’t the easiest patient.

“I kept trying to get out of the hospital as soon as I was in it,” he said. “I’m like, ‘I’m out of here.’ I hate what I was wearing, gross. It was terrible.”

He also said he was “kicked out” of the first ICU, which he said was under construction: “I’m like, the lights are flickering, everyone in here is moaning like they’re dying in the ICU…. this is like a haunted house.”

Kimmel speculated that Renner may have been hallucinating due to the drugs they gave him, and Renner laughed: “I’m going back to the hospital this week to apologize to every one of those nurses.”

Renner made good on that promise. Hospital stays are never easy, but it’s clear that Renner is grateful for the staff who saved his life after his horrific accident.
