Jimmy Buffett’s last words are heartbreaking

The entertainment world has been mourning the sudden death of Jimmy Buffett, who tragically passed away on September 1.

The iconic singer had been “battling Merkel Cell Skin Cancer for four years,” as per an official obituary published on his website.

Merkel cell carcinoma is an exceedingly uncommon ailment in which malignant (cancerous) cells form in the skin, as stated by the National Cancer Institute. The website also mentions that “sun exposure and having a weak immune system can affect the risk of Merkel cell carcinoma.”

The obituary made a point of mentioning that Buffett “continued to perform during treatment, playing his last show, a surprise appearance in Rhode Island, in early July.”

Ever the entertainer, Buffett made sure that his final words to his sister Lucy “Lulu” Buffett were true to form.

In a heartfelt op-ed for Florida Keys’ Keys News, Lulu wrote: “He didn’t concern himself with finding eternal rest,” adding that his parting words to her were simply: “Have fun.”

Following her father’s sudden death, Buffett’s daughter, Sarah “Delaney” Buffett, paid a poignant tribute to her beloved father.

Delaney, in a touching Instagram post, wrote: “I had known my dad my entire life, but in his last days, I truly understood the essence of who he was: a man whose spirit could not be broken.”

She continued: “Despite the pain, he greeted each day with a smile. Even in his suffering, he radiated kindness when he could have easily chosen bitterness. He encouraged us not to mourn or be afraid, but to continue the celebration.”

Many prominent personalities took to the comments section to express their sympathy, with American surfer Kelly Slater writing: “Your dad was one of my favorite people I’ve ever met, right at the top of the heap. I think in his passing his brilliance for capturing life in words and song is even more evident.”

He added: “I find myself hearing or reading one of his lines and having epiphanies of how beautifully he captured the sentiments of his life. What a beautiful human we were all so blessed to know either in person or through music. Much love to your family.”
