Although he’s since changed his mind, John Stamos wasn’t always a fan of Full House.
While appearing on an episode of “Hot Ones,” Stamos shared his initial thoughts about the hit sitcom with host Sean Evans.
“Full House, I hated that show. Obviously, I ended up loving it, but it was sort of pitched to me as a Bosom Buddies … with, you know, a couple of kids in the background,” he said.
It wasn’t until the cast’s first table read that he realized the children weren’t just background characters, and he wasn’t going to be the star of the show.
“We did a table read of it, and I was the star. I was coming off of General Hospital,” the 59-year-old actor said. “We sit down, and we started reading, and Jodie Sweetin, who plays Stephanie, reads her lines, and people are dying laughing. I mean screaming, I was like, ‘What’s happening here?’”
“They couldn’t even hear my lines. They were laughing so hard at her.”
After the table read he called his agent.
“Get me the f— off this show.”
“I fought it for a long time,” Stamos admitted.
Eventually he realized there was no main character, and that’s what made Full House a “beautiful show.”
“I realized the central character was love,” he said. “We were the best representation of a loving family, not a normal family. And it was the new normal that was now an unconventional family.”
This wouldn’t be the only time Stamos had issues sharing the spotlight.
Stamos previously confessed to temporarily firing Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because he “couldn’t deal” with the 11-month-old twins on set.
“I said, ‘This is not going to work, guys,’ and I screamed it 10 times. I said, ‘Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.’”
Oddly enough, Full House was responsible for launching the careers of the child actors who appeared on the show.

I’m sure it was difficult for John Stamos to go from being the star on one show to a member of an ensemble, but look what they were able to create! A beautiful show about family.
