Kaley Cuoco describes infuriating in-flight encounter with fellow passenger

Flying is hardly an enjoyable experience for the best of us… But sometimes it gets even worse when you have kids in tow.

Actress Kaley Cuoco is no stranger to the latter.

In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cuoco, known for her roles in The Flight Attendant and The Big Bang Theory, shared an amusing yet frustrating incident from her first flight with her baby daughter.

The incident, which occurred over the Thanksgiving weekend in November, led to some pretty unexpected drama with an unhelpful fellow passenger.

Cuoco and her boyfriend, actor Tom Pelphrey, were traveling with their baby and had taken extra precautions to ensure a smooth journey, including bringing nine-month-old Matilda’s sound machine to help her sleep. However, things took an unexpected turn when Matilda started crying on the plane.

“So she’s crying [on the plane],” Cuoco said. “She finally falls asleep and she’s on Tom, and the sound machine is on and we were finally like [ugh].”

According to Cuoco, a steward approached them, asking them to turn off the sound machine as another passenger was bothered by it. Cuoco described the awkward moment, saying: “I can feel Tom be like, ‘Hey, ask the passenger if she wants to hold our screaming child when we turn it off.’ I mean, the ice went into his veins.”

Expressing their frustration, Cuoco and Pelphrey were visibly upset with the passenger. The tension continued even after landing when they discovered that the woman in question was sitting right in front of them.

“So then we landed, and it was the woman right in front of us. And so we get up and now Matilda is like, ‘Haha, life is great.’ The lady turns around and she goes, ‘Oh, so your daughter does know how to smile,‘” the Big Bang Theory actress said.

“It was in that moment where I understood why women end up on ‘Dateline.’ I could have strangled her. I could have thrown that woman off the plane,” Cuoco added, before commenting that people need to be more sympathetic towards parents traveling with young children on planes.

Cuoco and Pelphrey welcomed their daughter, Matilda Carmine Richie Pelphrey, in March 2023. The couple had announced the pregnancy in October 2022.

Cuoco shared that having a child wasn’t initially on her radar until she met Pelphrey. “As a young girl I dreamed of it, but I became involved in my career,” she told Emmy magazine in an interview last May. “Then when we met, it was instantaneous — ‘Oh my God, I want to have a kid with you.’”

Flying can be difficult enough, but I definitely have a lot of respect and sympathy for parents traveling with young children.
