Earlier this year, Kate Middleton, the 42-year-old wife of Prince William and mom of their three children, addressed public concerns about her health and well-being.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,” the Princess of Wales said in a video.
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
While she’s maintaining her “right to privacy” and not revealing what type of cancer she is fighting, the curious public is determined to know and carefully examining every photo she’s appeared in since her diagnosis.
Begging for updates
On April 29, Prince William and Kate celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary and shared on social media a never-before-seen image taken on their wedding day inside the palace.
The stunning portrait of the happy newlyweds is captioned, “13 years ago today!”
While the majority of netizens wished the beautiful couple a “long life” and happy anniversary,” some were begging for information on the princesses’ condition.
“Wish that we could have an update on her,” shares one, while another writes, “Any update on how Kate’s treatment is going please anyone?”
Not yet ‘out of the woods’
On June 14, Kate shared her first message since her diagnosis and let fans know that her “treatment is ongoing” and while she’s “making good progress” she is not “out of the woods yet.”
“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she says in the post that shows her standing by a tree. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
Telling her fans she’s been “blown away” by all the support she’s received, she adds,
“It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.”
The next day, Catherine, the Princess of Wales made her first public appearance in months to celebrate Trooping the Colour, the annual military parade held in honor of the king’s official birthday.
Wearing a white dress with black details and a matching hat, Kate rode the parade route with sons George, 10 and Louis, 6, along with daughter Charlotte, 9.
Fans were thrilled to see her out and voiced their excitement on social media.
“Great to see you back, the country has missed you,” gushes one fan.
Offering her thoughts on the 21 second clip that shows Kate and the kids in the Glass Coach, another writes, “A beautiful behind the scenes glimpse! So glad to see you, Catherine.”
A third offers, “I wish I could gently hug Kate. She is so precious.”
‘Lost even more weight’
On July 15, the stunning princess received a standing ovation when she appeared at the men’s singles final at Wimbledon.
Looking elegant and radiant as always, Kate wore a gorgeous purple dress that featured a modern silhouette with subtle draping and her signature bow detail.
Sitting in the Royal Box with her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton Matthews, the longtime tennis fan watched Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic play for the title.
Beaming from ear to ear and waving to the crowds of loyal followers, she then awarded the championship trophy to Alcaraz.
Commenting on the photos shared on social media, netizens jumped in praising the mom on her recent appearance.
“It’s so lovely to see you back Princess Catherine. Looking elegant and graceful in purple and Princess Charlotte looking lovely as always, a joy to see,” writes one fan.
A second says, “We missed you so much! So happy to see you looking healthy and beautiful as ever! Sending love.”
“Beautiful…And a smile to light up the room despite the challenges in life,” writes a third, referring to her ongoing cancer treatments.
Meanwhile, other fans say she’s too thin and expressed their concerns.
“Is it me, or does she look super thin – like unhealthy thin? Hopefully, she is well and recovering,” one user tweets.
Another critic suggested her look is due to “cosmetic work and makeup.” Then speaking of her obvious weight loss, the user continues, “Just look at her left arm! The [bicep] is just standing out like a cord with no supporting flesh on the sides.”
A third writes, “Geeze, she’s lost even more weight. Someone get her help!”
Responding to the harsh critiques over Kate looking unhealthy, another writes, “Always beautiful but it’s clear treatment has taken a bit of a toll. Her proportions are off – praying she continues to recover.”
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, purple is one of the many colors that brings awareness to types of cancer. The color suggests support for bladder, gynecological, vaginal, pancreatic and thyroid cancers. It’s possible Kate’s purple dress at Wimbledon offered a hint to what she’s fighting. Or, as earlier reported, the color is a nod to the tournaments’ official purple and green.
