There are few celebrities who have as glowing a reputation as Keanu Reeves.
Reeves, often hailed as one of Hollywood’s kindest souls, has earned this reputation through numerous acts of generosity and humility.
Known for putting others’ needs before his own, Reeves’ character shines through in various anecdotes shared by those who have encountered him. One such act of kindness is a clear indication of his selflessness, and it has a lot to do with the woman who raised him.
Keanu Reeves was supported by his mother
Reeves’ journey into acting was supported by his mother, Patricia Taylor, who encouraged him to pursue his dreams from a young age.
Recalling his teenage years during a press junket for the movie Constantine in 2005, Reeves told Black Film that he fondly remembers seeking his mother’s blessing at the age of 15 to pursue acting. Her response: “Whatever you want, dear,” fueled his determination to pursue a career in acting, leading him to enroll into acting classes to hone his craft.
Acknowledging his mother’s unwavering support, Reeves has often expressed his gratitude for her encouragement, and has spoken about the pivotal role she played in his journey.
Their bond is extra special especially because Taylor has had a career in the costume and production design industry, and has worked on multiple movies like Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Couches, Tables and Darts, and The Four Corners of Nowhere. She also created the costume Dolly Parton wore for her Playboy Magazine cover in 1978, Hollywood Life reported.
Keanu Reeves treats his mother
In a touching display of appreciation, Reeves invited his mother as his date to the 2020 Oscars, allowing her to bask in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Despite not being nominated for any awards that year, Reeves’ decision to share the spotlight with his mother endeared him even more to fans.
However, Reeves’ relationship with his father, Samuel Reeves Jr., has been more complex. The actor’s parents divorced when he was just three years old, and while he maintained some contact with his father during his early years, their relationship eventually deteriorated, according to The Mirror. Reeves has expressed reluctance to make amends with his father, despite his father’s willingness to do so.
Despite the estrangement from his father, Reeves has always held his mother in the highest regard. After experiencing personal loss and transient living arrangements, Reeves chose to put his mother first – buying her a home in Los Angeles before purchasing his own.
As his own father was quite absent, it only made sense to Reeves to show his gratitude towards his mother by gifting her a home.
