Liam Payne passed away on October 16, 2024, in a tragic accident while he was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne was 31 years old at the time of his death when he fell from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur hotel.
The singer was in the city with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, to support his close friend and former bandmate Niall Horan, who had played there earlier, on 2nd October 2024.
Cassidy left the city a week later to go home to Florida, while Payne opted to stay behind in South America to continue his vacation. He was alone when the tragic incident took place, which claimed his life.
A year after the tragedy, his girlfriend Cassidy took to Instagram stories to share AI-created images of her and her late love.
One of the pictures showed Payne holding Cassidy while she was in a floral dress. While some people might find the tributes beautiful, there were others, including friends of the late Payne who did not appreciate them at all. The former colleague of Payne spoke to the media and branded the images as ‘distasteful.’
They said, “Who does this? Of course she is fully entitled to remember Liam, but this all feels a bit much. It’s surely triggering for those who loved Liam.”
“There is some sympathy for Kate but creating a photo of them together so soon after his death is completely strange and also upsetting for so many who loved Liam.”
They further added: “His parents are normal people, a normal family who don’t play the fame game, they don’t have time for influencers or TikTokers. They saw what fame did to him and they don’t want any part of it. They will grieve their son for ever, privately.”
Kate Cassidy has been open about her experience with Payne’s tragic death. She shared how she found out about the incident.
“I feel blessed I didn’t find out over social media because I just couldn’t even imagine that. I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok and one of Liam’s friends called me,” she told The Sun.
“That moment, it’s like blank; it’s blacked out in my head.
“I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour. Or something that somebody made up just to get views. Then instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut. I was like, ‘Why would somebody make this up? Is this true?’”
