Melissa Joan Hart has now made a subtle response to the critique she received for a video she posted a while ago, which many people found ‘tasteless.’
The actress is best known for playing Sabrina The Teenage Witch on television between the years 1996 and 2003. The show depicts a girl who finds out she is a witch, and then the show follows the witch as she tries to master her gift.
One of the characters in the show was a 500-year-old witch who was turned into a black cat to help him plot to take over the world. In the show, Salem appeared in all the seasons that it ran.
Now decades after the show ended, Melissa made a video where she featured the famous black cat. The video had a caption that read, “When people ask me if I’m a cat person.”

In the video, Melissa sat with a toy black cat on her lap. Then all of a sudden she throws the stuffed animal in the air and kicks it. Then she proceeds to pet a black dog sitting next to her. In the caption, she clarified, “No Salems were harmed in the filming of this silly video,” she clarified in the caption, adding, “P.S. I like cats, but I love dogs!”
However, a lot of people did not find the video as amusing as she intended.
“Not going to lie this was a bit heartbreaking, poor salem lol,” one person wrote. “You literally killed your fan base” another wrote.
Another person wrote, concerned that the video might send the wrong message, “Not funny… kids will think it’s ok to kick cats… do better Melissa!”
Another wrote, “Actually not that funny.” Another Instagram user added, “Not really a cat person either, but this wasn’t a nice thing to post.”
However, Melissa Joan Hart is no stranger to controversy. She posted images of herself at the beach, with the caption, “New profile pic. #beachvibes.” Clearly she is not paying too much attention to the comments.
She posted another video recently after her cat video debacle. In the video, she is drinking coffee, with text that reads, “Mom, what were you doing in the ‘90s?”
Then the video cuts to pictures of Melissa from the time she was on shows like Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All.
Hart is married to musician Mark Wilkerson, and the two of them have three children together.
