Piers Morgan labels Meghan Markle ‘Princess Pinocchio’ in latest attack on the Duchess

Chat show host and former breakfast television presenter Piers Morgan has never hidden his true feelings for Meghan Markle.

After decades of writing the headlines the former newspaper editor became the subject of them after his attack on the Duchess of Sussex in the wake of her shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan and Harry claimed a member of the Royal family had expressed concern over how dark their baby would be when Meghan was pregnant with their son Archie.

Meghan also told Oprah in the March interview that the constant drip of false stories about her in the press during her pregnancy led her to feel suicidal and when she reached out for help to ‘the firm’ she didn’t get the support she needed.

Oprah also asked why Archie was not made a prince to which Meghan said: “They didn’t want him to be a prince . . . which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn’t going to receive security.”

Following the interview Piers Morgan, who at the time co-hosted “Good Morning Britain”, said he didn’t believe “a word” of what Meghan had said and described the interview as “a two-hour trash-a-thon of our royal family” for which Meghan deserved an Oscar nomination.

His comments led him to storm off his own show after weather presenter Alex Beresford challenged him.

Speaking in support of Meghan, Alex said: “So I think we all need to take a step back and I understand you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times.

“And I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or you had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off?

“I don’t think she has and yet you continue to trash her.”

At that point, Morgan got up from the desk and said: “I’m done with this. See you later. Sorry, I can’t do this.”

His views on Meghan resulted in more than 40,000 complaints to UK Media regulator Ofcom, including a formal complaint from Meghan Markle herself.

The outburst only seemed to add fuel to the fire and in his latest attack refers to Meghan as “Princess Pinocchio”.

But his anger toward Meghan did not stem from the interview in March but appears to have been brewing many years prior to this. According to the Express newspaper they knew each other before Meghan met Harry.

Six months after Meghan and Harry married Morgan wrote a column in which he said: “Meghan Markle is a ruthless social climbing actress who has landed the role of her life and is determined to milk it for all she can – and that’s why the Palace is beginning to turn on her.”

He then revealed he was “ghosted” by her after becoming friendly with each other from 2015.

He wrote: “She even started sending me early preview episodes of her show so we could debate juicy storylines yet to air – which we did, at length.”

Then, in June 2016, they met for drinks in London at his favorite pub while she was in town, the article said.

But the meeting did not go smoothly and it seems Morgan was under a false impression. He wrote: “At this point, I was indeed laboring under the massive misapprehension that we were friends. I was wrong.”

It seems he never forgave Meghan for the chilly encounter and the 56-year-old former tabloid newspaper editor now has an offensive nickname for her which he revealed amid rumors he might return to “Good Morning Britain.”

“ITV didn’t get rid of me. I left GMB because I declined to apologize for disbelieving Princess Pinocchio,” the former “America’s Got Talent” judge tweeted.

Morgan shared a news story about rumors he could return to his “Good Morning Britain” job, asking, “Did anyone take my dressing room?”

His comments come amid reports that Meghan won’t be returning to the UK alongside Harry for the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue on what would have been her 60th birthday.

Princes Harry and William are expected to reunite to unveil the statue at the July 1 ceremony in the gardens of Kensington Palace with each one making a speech.

It’s thought Meghan won’t be returning with Harry having just had their daughter Lilibet Diana but speculation is mounting that she will return to the U.K. with Harry next year as the Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne.

Royal expert Omid Scobie, who is believed to be a friend of Meghan Markle, claimed the couple would be together to celebrate the Queen’s huge milestone next year.

He added: “I would imagine that next year during the Queen’s Jubilee, we will see both Harry and Megan supporting the Queen,” as per the Express newspaper.
