Reba McEntire‘s son Shelby recently celebrated his 34th birthday, and in honor of his big day the country legend shared a sweet tribute and a rare photo of the two.
Keep reading to see “one of the biggest blessings” in McEntire’s life.
“From the first second I found out I was pregnant, up to today, this child is one of the biggest blessings of my life,” McEntire wrote. “Thank you, God for letting me experience being a mama. I love you, Shelby, with all my heart mind and soul.”
The post, which she shared on February 23, garnered more than 110,000 likes.
McEntire and her ex-husband Narvel Blackstock welcomed Shelby Blackstock in 1990.
Despite being at the top of her career, Reba told People she did her best to spend quality time with Shelby.
“I had the best nannies, and I took him on the road with me,” she said. “When I couldn’t, I would fly home after a concert, get him up in the morning, take him to school and pick him up. We’d play until I had to fly out again for a concert that night. I wanted to be with Shelby. Still do.”
And she focused on raising him in a way so he wouldn’t be a “spoiled brat.”
“When we would play games or cards, I’d never let Shelby win,” she recalled. “He wouldn’t have learned anything that way. I always told Shelby, ‘I’ll always love you, but I want other people to like you. So don’t be a little jerk. Don’t be a spoiled brat.'”
Now he and his wife of two years are trying for their own child, one who will no doubt be loved upon by McEntire.
Happy birthday, Shelby!
