The daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is the latest to join the exodus of celebrity children ditching their famous Hollywood surnames.
Only weeks after Brad Pitt’s kids – Shiloh and Vivienne – dropped their last names, Suri released her ties to Cruise and made a heartwarming gesture for her mom.
Keep reading to why Suri is deleting Cruise from her name!
Beyond the privilege of being born into Hollywood aristocracy, Suri Cruise has done very little to collect the numbers as the fourth most googled celebrity kid.
But the world wants to know everything about the only daughter who was born to Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise.
The 18-year-old Suri shares a very close bond with her mother, the Dawson’s Creek star, who she lives with in New York City.
In 2012, when she was only six, her parents divorced and Holmes, awarded full custody, raised her young girl as a Catholic.
According to ABC News, the Mission Impossible star – a dedicated Scientologist – admitted his ex-wife filed for divorce “in part to protect Suri from Scientology.”
‘She’s my heart’
Without offering details on how and if her ex-husband’s religion influenced her decision to split, Holmes tells Glamour, “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
Suri hasn’t seen her dad in more than a decade and Cruise, who does “not have a part in [Suri’s] life,” doesn’t know his incredibly talented daughter.
In 2022, Suri sang “Blue Moon,” a song that’s featured in the rom-com Alone Together, a film directed by Holmes, who also stars.
“I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her,” Holmes tells the women’s magazine in a 2023 issue. “And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly…It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”
‘Own identity’
Gushing with affection for her daughter, Holmes said she raised her lookalike to be independent and hard working.
“She came out very strong – she’s always been a strong personality. She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it,” Holmes said of Suri, who’s off to Carnegie Mellon in the fall.
And while the young woman is starting the next chapter of her life, it appears she’s creating a greater distance between her and the Risky Business star.
Page Six reports she’s ditched Cruise from her name and is showing a lot of love to the single mother who raised her.
Recently, Suri graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School (known as the Fame school), and when she heads off to the prestigious college in Pittsburgh, she’ll likely be packing and wearing her new moniker.
Not only did Suri Noelle drop her dad’s last name, but she added her mom’s middle name, Noelle.
“She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name,” says a source, who suggests she made the change because she “wants her own identity.”
Over the last year, the teenager was listed as “Suri Noelle” in playbills for high school productions and she used the name at her June 2024 graduation ceremony, which was missed by her father who only one day later was seen at a Taylor Swift’s show in London.
The anonymous tipster adds Suri’s new surname will also help her “avoid the paparazzi” and allow her to “start fresh at college.”
At the time, it’s unknown if she legally changed her surname.
