Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl spent 24 hours smoking meat to feed hundreds at shelter during storm in Los Angeles

We often praise celebrities when they donate a large sum to a particular cause, but what about those who go a step further and take action in order to make a difference?

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters spent nearly 24 hours volunteering at a Los Angeles shelter cooking food for those experiencing homelessness during one of Southern California’s most recent major storms.

The Foo Fighters’ frontman brought all of his own equipment and reportedly covered all of the expenses.

Grace Ancheta, director of development at Hope the Mission, told TODAY.com that the rockstar had all the food delivered to the shelter and prepped it himself.

“He arrived around 3 in the afternoon, and then he was in our kitchen,” Ancheta said. “He was prepping the meat, he was cutting it up and he was there until he put it in the smoker.”

Grohl then showed up at Hope The Mission around midnight on February 22 and worked for the next 16 hours cooking a massive amount of meat, beans, and coleslaw for 450 people.

When it was finally time to serve the food, Grohl stepped up to the plate.

“He actually served to our guests, he came out and was very gracious and took pictures with the people that recognized him,” Ancheta said. “He wanted no glory for it, he was like, ‘I just want to do this for you guys and give back in that way.'”
