Gen Z find millennial alternative for name ‘Karen’

The term ‘Karen’ has been around for quite a while, describing a certain kind of attitude in people who can be racist or entitled. However, now the internet is coming up with a new term for the younger version of a Karen.

New hilarious social media discourse is about a new name for ‘Karens’ as the name implies the woman is older, and the behavior is not limited to one particular age group. Karen mostly refers to women from the Baby Boomer generation. And Gen Z wants a name that more accurately represents millennials.

The term ‘Karen’ first gained popularity in 2018 when it was used to describe middle-aged white women who weaponize their privilege to demand special treatment, bully others, and escalate minor issues, turning them into widely publicized fiascos.

Videos that went viral featuring women who are bullying retail employees, calling the police on individuals, usually racially motivated, and over non-issues, and other things.

The stereotype was usually accompanied in popular media with a sharp bob, a popular haircut for older women. Now Gen Z is trying to rebrand the concept for another generation: the millennials.

One name that has been nominated several times is Jessica.

More and more people are picking up on this conversation and seem to be in agreement that the name needed a rebrand and that Karen did not work for the millennials who exhibited similar behavior.

Some ‘Karens’ seemed to be happy about the situation, with one of them tweeting on X, “There’s a New ‘Karen’ in Town. YAY! Now give me my name back! Gen Z is using ‘Jessica’ for another way to explain a certain ‘entitled’ stereotype.”

Another person was not as convinced, writing, “Jessica is the new Karen. Gen Z is trying to create their own version of a “Karen,” with Jessica as the top choice, followed by Ashley and Tiffany. As a Millennial, I’d say nothing beats Karen, the OG. What do you think?”
