2-year-old boy left in vegetative state after being cruelly battered by mom’s boyfriend

Doctors at the hospital predict that he will have to live with permanent mental and physical disabilities as a result of the abuse, inflicted by his mother’s boyfriend, Adam Thomas.

Sarah Sullivan, the boy’s aunt, told the Courier that the 2-year-old is now only responsive to pain.

She said: “[Thomas] breathes on his own, and then he stops. He’s not doing well. He’s going to live, but they said we need to prepare for him to be in this state for the rest of his life.”

The toddler’s sister, Amery, was also abused by Thomas, and sustained injuries to her stomach, pelvis and ribs. The 3-year-old had to undergo surgery to repair her damaged organs.

It’s said 28-year-old Adam Thomas had previous in burning other young children who were of a similar age to the siblings, though he tried to claim their injuries were caused by a series of unfortunate accidents.

Adam was handed two life sentences in February of this year, while the mother of the children admitted to authorities that she’d failed to seek care for her children. She was handed a sentence of 20 years behind bars on March 7.

Thomas remains hospitalized with a round-the-clock nurse, whilst the family is fighting Child Protective Services for custody of Amery. They’ve set up a GoFundMe Page to help cover the medical bills for both Thomas and Amery.

It should go without saying this is one of the most vile cases of child abuse and neglect we’ve ever seen. To be able to hurt an innocent child in such a way is beyond the comprehension of any sane human being, and we can only hope those responsible are forced to reflect on what they’ve done for the remainder of their lives.
