2-year-old dies from starvation while mom works overnight as club dancer

A Georgia mother stands accused of felony murder after her 2-year-old daughter starved to death while she worked overnight shifts as a club dancer, according to reports.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said that Devin Moon, 29, placed a call to emergency services after finding her young daughter “unresponsive and cold to touch” on Tuesday.

The 2-year-old, named Reygan Moon, was found to be deceased at the scene when officials arrived.

“Reygan Moon was determined to be deceased at the scene. She was 2 years and 11 months old,” according to police in a news release.

As per reports, Moon told detectives that her daughter had been born with “medical issues” which prevented her from gaining weight. An autopsy discovered that the girl’s cause of death was neglect from malnutrition.

Using the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s growth chart, it was determined that Reygan weighed half the normal weight for a girl of her age.

The investigation into the death also revealed that Moon had been leaving her child in order to work overnight shifts on a regular basis.

“During the investigation detectives found that she had been leaving the child to go work basically overnight shifts on a regular basis,” Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Jake Smith told 11 Alive. “So the [child] really was left at home alone for 10-12 hours most nights.”

Moon was arrested after the autopsy showed her daughter to be malnourished. She’s now in custody without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center, say police.

11 Alive, meanwhile, report that the 29-year-old was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and felony murder.

What a truly horrific turn of events. We can only hope that Devin Moon is tried and punished suitably, whilst we pray that her innocent daughter will rest in peace.
