83-year-old thinks he’s lost everything in terrible house fire – then something crawls from the flames

A truly heartbreaking incident took place earlier this year in the Turkish province of Ordu.

According to the Daily Sabah, an explosion in the house of 83-year-old Ali Meşe subsequently led to a fire which devoured his abode, leaving his home in ruins.

In the midst of great tragedy, however, a familiar face was able to crawl from the wreckage against all odds. Meşe’s cat, “Blond Girl” …

As per the Daily Sabah, Meşe was attempting to light his heating stove with gasoline so that he could cook something. However, whilst in the process something went wrong, leading to an explosion in the living room which ended up burning his house to the ground. It was an ordeal that could so easily have cost him his life.

Meşe might have escaped, but he lost all of his possessions. 13 of his 14 chickens died in the fire, and his house was reduced to little more than smoldering rubble.

Against the odds

The 83-year-old managed to escape the house with minor burns, and would later be discharged from the hospital. His true reprieve, however, came when he believed he had lost everything … until his cat came crawling from the flames.

Firefighters were able to save his beloved pet – the last thing left to him – and he embraced it with tears in his eyes. It makes for a tearjerking picture indeed, one that has gone viral online.

Following the story’s popularity, American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres shared the following video about the fate of the 83-year-old. Meşe quickly became a worldwide sensation, garnering sympathy on an international scale.

The wave of compassion soon reached the authorities, who refused to stand idly by.

They arranged to build a new home for the 83-year-old. Until the house is ready, Meşe will live with his daughter.

Furthermore, Family Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya told the Daily Sabah that it was her aim to launch a relief campaign for Meşe, in the hopes of restoring his life to what it had been before the accident.

Isn’t it great that in an old man’s darkest hour so much help and love is shown on an international scale. We’re so happy his cat was able to survive the fire, too!
