Armie Hammer breaks silence with emotional post after it’s confirmed he won’t face sexual assault charges

Armie Hammer has broken his silence following the confirmation that he will not face charges for the sexual assault case brought against him in 2021.

The actor had previously been accused of rape and physically abusive behavior by a woman identified as “Effie”, who he had been in an on-and-off relationship with for a number of years.

Yet following a lengthy investigation by the LAPD, authorities have decided against filing sexual assault charges. As per Variety, the D.A.’s office released a statement in which it said it could not prove rape allegations beyond reasonable doubt, partly due to the “complexity of the relationship” between Hammer and his accuser.

According to reports, the aforementioned “Effie” first reported Hammer to police in 2021, claiming that he had been physically abusive over the course of their four-year, on-and-off relationship.

Hammer has always firmly denied any and all such allegations, but faced a painstaking wait while the LAPD undertook their investigation.

Earlier this week, the D.A. released a statement reading:

“In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime.

“As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt… Due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

After Effie’s accusation broke in 2021, a number of other women came forward on social media to level their own allegations. Hammer, perhaps best known for his roles in The Social Network and Call Me by Your Name, was dropped by his agency and fired from the TV and film projects he had been hired for at the time. He has not worked in Hollywood since the first accusation made its way to the press.

Now, though, following the announcement that he will not face trial, Hammer has released a statement of his own.

“I am very grateful to the District Attorney for conducting a thorough investigation and coming to the conclusion that I have stood by this entire time, that no crime was committed,” his Instagram post read.

“I would like to say a very special thank you to all of the people who have helped me get through this time. Onwards and upwards,” he added in the post’s caption.

Tiffiny Blacknell, director of the bureau of communications with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, said though prosecutors conducted an “extremely thorough review” of the allegations against Hammer, they ultimately found “insufficient evidence”.

“As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt,” she said.

“We know that it is hard for women to report sexual assault.

“Even when we cannot move forward with a prosecution, our victim service representatives will be available to those who seek our victim support services.

“Due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
