A lucky few among us may retain a youthful appearance well into our later years, but the chances are slim that we’ll be able to compare to the ever graceful Vera Wang.
The fashion icon’s name is known around the world, and so now is her apparent ability to stave off the ravages of time. At 74 years old, fans would be forgiven for expecting Vera to start looking her age, and yet every time she steps out on a red carpet, she captivates and surprises people anew with her sheer longevity.
Anyone doubting that need only look back to the 2024 BAFTAs, where the legendary designer appeared in a simple white draped gown accessorized by black glasses, long black leather-look gloves, and a black tube top.
Wang also opted for minimal makeup, wowing onlookers with her youthful appearance despite the fact she’s in her mid-70s.
The New York-born designer drew plenty of praise last year, too, with fans dubbing her “immortal” after 2023’s BAFTAs ceremony.
“Vera Wang seems immortal with her sultry youthful look at the BAFTAs! If I could look half of what she looks like, it’d be something!” one person wrote.
“Just a reminder to everyone that Vera Wang is 73 YEARS OLD,” another added.
This year’s event proved much of the same as far as fan reaction was concerned, leaving people wondering just what fountain of youth the 74-year-old appears to have access to.
Indeed, over the past few years the buzz around Wang’s unblemished appearance has reached fever-pitch, so much so that the designer herself was pressed as to how she retains her figure.
Vera admitted that she does indulge in the occasional bit of fast food, contrary to what her body might imply, and said that working was the secret to staying young.
“I do eat McDonald’s, absolutely,” she said last year. “I order it every day, like two weeks on it, and then I’ll change.”
“Basically, I’ve worked my whole life, so it’s really been about work,” she went on. “I think work keeps you young and stimulated.
“I work very long hours, I’ve raised two daughters. I think keeping busy is the best antidote [for] good health.”
