She may be well into her 70s, but Cher shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. The Believe singer is still making music, still making headlines, and still proving that she retains the popular appeal that has helped her to stay relevant for decades.
Born on May 20, 1946 in California, the Goddess of Pop first rose to stardom after the Sonny & Cher 1965 hit, I Got You Babe.
Throughout her 50-year career, she’s starred in her own television show, sold over 100 million records, received countless awards, acted on Broadway, and toured solo around the world. At this point, she can safely be classified as one of the most successful entertainers in the world.
Yet though Cher’s star isn’t necessarily fading, she’s repeatedly come in for criticism lately for her revealing style given her age.

To say that Cher has been and done all there is to do in the entertainment industry is a relative understatement. Having been a well-loved celebrity for the better part of 60 (yes, 60!) years, the iconic singer has transcended several generations and continues to perform even today.
Of course, surviving in such a cut-throat industry for so long is no easy feat at all. It’s testament to Cher’s star power that she still boasts and enormous fan base the world over. It speaks volumes about her popularity that she still has legions of followers ready to defend her.
And they’ve been forced to do just that of late, with certain individuals online determined to try and drag Cher’s name through the dirt due to what they deem to be inappropriate behavior at her age.
Now, that Cher likes to experiment with eccentric outfits and somewhat revealing costumes is nothing new. Indeed, her charisma and flamboyant way of doing things has held her in good stead where retaining public interest in concerned.
Put simply, Cher expresses herself through her clothing and stylistic choices – her collaborations with costumier Bob Mackie is the stuff of folklore. Yet there are those that believe the singer should be taking a more modest approach now that she’s well into her 70s.
One need go back only as far as the 2017 Billboard Music Awards to find an example of Cher rocking a beaded outfit that left very little to the imagine.
Needless to say, backlash was fierce from certain quarters, with people of the opinion that Cher wasn’t dressing for her age (whatever that means). The singer herself clapped back at her critics at the time, stating: “I can do a five-minute plank.”
So just how does Cher stay in such amazing shape? Well, the 76-year-old told Hello! Magazine: ”I exercise about five times a week because it’s something I’ve always done and I just enjoy it.
”When I was young I was a tomboy. I played sports. And I’m learning to surf right now. I like that kind of stuff, thank God.”
Speaking to Closer in 2013, she said: ”There are things I don’t like that are unhealthy, like drugs and drinking, so I never got into them to begin with.
”I smoked cigarettes for a while and I’d have done drugs had I liked them, but they didn’t agree with me. I’ll only drink three of four times a year too.”
Recently, Cher was involved in a high-profile relationship with music producer Alexander Edwards, 36. Despite their 40-year age gap, the pair appeared to be going strong for a number of months, before going their separate ways in April.
Contrary to rumors at the time, it’s been relayed that the couple were never formally engaged, with E! Online stating that their break-up was an amicable one.
