She’s the daughter of one of the richest, most famous men in the world, but we’ll be the first to admit that there isn’t a whole lot we knew about Phoebe Gates.
That was until recently, when Bill and Melinda Gates’ youngest child began to make appearances at star-studded galas within New York’s fashion scene.
According to Hello!, Phoebe turned plenty of heads at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women Gala in New York City on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old donned a strapless brown dress for the occasion, as well as beige heels and a gold chain necklace.
Needless to say, the internet didn’t waste any time at all in having its say…
The Kering Foundation held its second annual Caring for Women dinner on Tuesday, September 12, welcoming a who’s who of stars including the likes of Salma Hayek, Zoe Kravitz, Nicole Kidman, and Kim Kardashian.
Yet a major discussion point from the evening was the captivating glamor of Bill Gates’s youngest daughter Phoebe, who by all accounts has made a grand entrance as a rising star in the fashion world.
The 21-year-old has maintained a relatively low profile over the years considering the influence of her father, but of late it’s become clear that her days of living a life away from the spotlight are numbered.
The social media influencer, studying Women’s Health at Stanford University, is said to have a keen interest in fashion, and completed an internship at British Vogue in September of last year.
“It was super interesting, and it was where I was like, ‘OK, I want to do a bunch more stuff’,” Phoebe said.
She added: “OK, I’m my parents’ daughter, that gives me immense privilege, but it’s not what I’m defined by.”
And if stepping out from the shadow of her illustrious mother and father is what the 21-year-old intends, she’s certainly making inroads.
Phoebe and mom Melinda recently appeared at New York Fashion week, and the former’s presence at the aforementioned Kering Foundation event garnered equal amounts of attention.
“Phoebe, 20, showcases her incredible abs in cutout dress,” one person commented on Twitter.
“Stunning,” another added simply on Facebook.
“She’s pretty,” said a third.
“Melinda Gates and her daughter Phoebe Gates looked stylish at the Michael Kors show during New York Fashion Week!” another wrote of Phoebe’s recent appearance alongside her mother.
According to an interview with The Reformation, Phoebe plans on launching her own fashion company in the future, with a focus on making sustainable fashion easier for consumers.
Yet she’ll likely do so without too much help from her father, despite the fact he remains one of the richest men in the world.
Bill Gates has time and again stated his intentions to use the vast majority of his eye-watering fortune for philanthropic causes as opposed to inheritance.
In any case, Phoebe’s star is undoubtedly rising. The 21-year-old has some 312,000 followers on Instagram at the time of writing, as well as 77,000 fans on TikTok.
Suffice to say we’ll be likely be seeing more of her in the future.
