Blake Shelton issues heartbreaking Toby Keith tribute after singer’s tragic death aged 62

It should come as no surprise that the country music scene is in mourning this week following the passing of Toby Keith at 62.

The legendary hitmaker succumbed to stomach cancer three years following his diagnosis, prompting an outpour of tributes from people all around the world.

Keith announced his diagnosis in 2022, undergoing six months of treatment. Sadly, despite Keith’s undeniable bravery and assurances that he would doggedly fight the disease to the end, the How Do You Look Me Now? singer passed away on the evening of February 5, 2024.

Given the size and scope of Keith’s popularity, it’s small wonder that a who’s who of country music icons have now broken their silence to pay tribute in the wake of his death.

Among them is Blake Shelton, who revealed that though he knew about the battles his friend faced, he “still never imagined this day.”

“You were the toughest man I ever met. Thank you brother for being a friend, a hero, and an inspiration. There will never be another Toby Keith,” Shelton added on Twitter.

And Shelton wasn’t the only one to make his feelings of grief clear. Carrie Underwood wrote: “Saddle up the horses, Jesus, ‘cause a true blue COWBOY just made his ride up to heaven!!!”

Tim McGraw, meanwhile, wrote: “He was a maverick. He did things his way, on his terms, a true artist. I always have and always will have tremendous respect for his artistry, dedication and fearlessness to do his thing. We all will miss you, brother.”

The iconic Dolly Parton added: “Toby Keith as one of the greats in every way. He will be missed but his music and legacy will live on.”

As per reports, Keith’s cancer first came to the attention of doctors in 2021. The American Solider singer told fans last year that his tumor had shrunk by a third, projecting optimism as for his prognosis.

Days prior to his passing, the country music icon shared a video reminiscing about his early days in the industry. Sadly, the singer passed away on February 5, 2024. He will be greatly missed.
