Brothers, 5 and 7, found living alone for a week after their mom died at home

Two young boys were found after living alone in a house for as long as one week following the sudden death of their adoptive mother, according to reports.

Police in Forney, Texas say the children, aged 5 and 7, were found on Sunday in Talty, Kaufman County, after a concerned teacher called police for a welfare check because the brothers hadn’t shown up for school in a week.

Forney ISD Spokesperson Kristen Zastoupil said: “They knew something was not right. They are used to communicating with this parent. And so when they didn’t get a response, they knew something was off.”

Officers responding to the welfare check found 71-year-old Connie Taylor dead inside the home, along with the two young boys. They said their adoptive mother had collapsed on the floor, and that they tried to call 911 but couldn’t access her phone because of a lock screen.

Instead, the brothers were forced to fend for themselves for five days. They’re now being cared for by Connie’s biological adult children.

As per reports, authorities believe Connie died of natural causes and do not suspect foul play.

A longtime friend and neighbor described Connie as a loving mother, while her adoption of the brothers was apparently made official just a month ago.

I can only imagine how frightened and distressed these boys must have been. Lord, wrap your arms around them and help them get over this trauma.
