The much-discussed romance between legendary singer Cher and her younger boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards has come to an end, with the couple having decided to go their separate ways.
According to reports, the Believe pop icon, 76, and Edwards, 36, called time on their relationship a number of weeks ago, months after the two lovebirds became an official item.
Back in November, 2022, Cher sent fans into overdrive when she posted on Twitter: “One part of my life is SO AMAZING.”
It wasn’t long before she moved to clarify matters, posting a picture of her new boyfriend alongside a heart emoji.
Cher revealed that she’d already introduced Edwards to the rest of her family, adding that “love doesn’t know math!”. Her comment was presumably made in reference to those questioning the substantial age gap between the two (Cher is 76, while Alexander is less than half that at 36).
And question they certainly did.
There were many who took the opportunity to criticize the unconventional pairing, though the couple themselves appeared ready to ignore any and all detractors.
In reply to those fans who aired on the side of protectiveness, perhaps seeing Edwards as someone with ulterior motives, Cher said: “As we All Know …I WASN’T BORN YESTERDAY,& What I Know For Sure…There Are No Guarantees. Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance. I’ve Always Taken Chances…It’s WHO I Am.”
Around Christmas time, the loved-up duo sparked rumors of an engagement when Cher posted a photo of a lucrative looking diamond ring, adding that she had “no words” for Alexander, 40 years her junior.
Neither Cher nor Alexander confirmed that it was an engagement ring, though neither publicly stated that it wasn’t either, sending the rumor-mill into a frenzy.
In March it was confirmed that the duo were working on music together for Cher’s upcoming album. Cher told E! Online at the time: “Some of the songs Alexander gave me, so I’m pretty excited about that. He’s a producer and a writer and he does everything, so I’m happy about that.”
It’s since been relayed that the couple were never formally engaged, with E! Online stating that their break-up a few weeks ago was an amicable one.
Cher was famously married to Sonny Bono until 1975 and later tied the knot with American musician Gregg Allman.
Alexander, meanwhile, vice president of A&R at Dem Jam Recordings, was previously in a relationship with Amber Rose – with whom he shares a son – for three years.
Here’s to wishing both Cher and Alexander all the best moving forward. Sometimes things just aren’t meant to be, but we’re happy they at least had an amicable split from one another.
