Lindsey Lourenco was a real fighter — and those aren’t just empty words.
In Lindsey’s 18 years, she spent a total of six years battling leukemia.
Every time the tough little girl finished a round of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a bone marrow transplant, everyone around her hoped she was finally free of her nightmarish sickness.
But despite her doctors best efforts, her family’s faith, and her courage — there was nothing any of them could do.
Lindsey fell into a coma, never to wake up again.
When this video was made, Lindsey didn’t have much time left.
Lindsey’s mother, Darlene, brought a guitar to the hospital to play one last song for her daughter.
Darlene wrote the song herself. The first time she played it was when Lindsey completed her first bone marrow transplant back in 2011.
Lindsey’s dad, Tony Lourenco explained the scene on a blog:
“She has been unconscious for almost a week now, her pain mostly under control and her comfort our only concern. My wife, Darlene, at our daughter’s celebration and it was an emotional performance. Last night I came into Lindsey’s hospital room to find Darlene strumming a borrowed guitar and singing to our little girl.”
The day after this was recorded, Lindsey lost the battle to her leukemia.
I can’t begin to imagine the sadness the family must have felt, but I hope with all my heart that Lindsey could hear her mother’s song and know how much she was loved.
Listen to the heartbreaking song here:
There’s nothing like a mother’s love for her child, as this clip really shows.
It’s both painful and heartbreaking to see Lindsey and her mother like this, but it’s also somehow beautiful.
The Lourenco family is sure that Lindsey heard this incredibly beautiful song and I hope so, too. Rest in peace, Lindsey!
