More than $130k raised for single dad who adopted 5 young children to keep them together

Every now and then, a story goes viral for all the right reasons. Often, these stories outline instances of compassion or love that transcend even the loftiest of expectations.

The story of Robert Carter, of Hamilton, Ohio, is certainly one of them. Last week, we detailed how Carter had adopted no less than five young siblings so that they might have the chance to grow up together instead of being separated within the system.

The new dad-of-five revealed that he knew what it was like to grow up without one’s biological siblings, having gone into foster care himself when he was 12. That meant he didn’t see his younger siblings for years.

As a result, he has a better understanding than most as to the importance of family sticking together. With that in mind, he simply couldn’t let siblings Marionna, Makayla, Robert, Giovanni and Kiontae grow up in different households.

So he adopted all five of them.

Needless to say, the internet exploded with love upon hearing about Robert’s gesture, and before long the wheels were turning to deliver something positive indeed.

When Kyle Hall learnt of Robert and his decision to take in five children, he set up a GoFundMe page on Oct 30 to help raise money.

Fast forward eleven days, and over 3,000 donors have combined to raise an impressive $132,000.

The GoFundMe explains: “The Carter Family is now looking to buy a new forever home where the kids can grow into our next future leaders. With Mr. Carter having experience of being a foster child himself,  he knows some of the struggles the children have already experienced especially being separated from each other for a period of six months.

After adopting the five children, Robert said: “I understand how they feel.

“I understand what they went through, so it really touched me. I was already thinking about adopting all of the kids but when I saw them crying, I was like, ‘Ok, I’m going to take all five to keep them together.’”

What a truly remarkable man Robert is. Thank you for your kindness and compassion, Robert … if only all of us had the courage to help as you are helping.
